An agent's subagent daemon publishes each subagent's output as terminal
rows on `$SWARM.term.<agent>.sub.<subagent>`, as the agent, into a
per-agent stream it creates itself; swarm-controller lists an agent's
subagents from that stream's subjects and relays one subagent's rows as
SSE; the swarm UI lists them under the agent's terminal preview and
reuses AgentTermPreview, full-screen tab included, with no input.
- swarm-nats.nix: the agent token may also publish
`$SWARM.term.{agent}.sub.>` and `$JS.API.STREAM.CREATE|INFO` on
`term-sub-{agent}`, and nothing else of JetStream. A module-eval arm
pins the agent-token grant as an exact list.
- mcp.nix: hive-subagent-daemon loads the agent's store identity
(`hive-agent-bao-cert/-key/-server-ca`, the ones hive-agent loads)
whenever the agent has a store, not only on the opencode preset. The
agent's own queue secret lives in the store, so this is the credential
the harness connects with.
- hive-subagent-mcp: `swarm_term` reads the agent's queue secret under
that identity, connects with the agent token, opens or creates
`term-sub-<agent>` (max_age 24h), and publishes classified rows from
the sink every subagent line already passes through. The sink only
queues (bounded, drop-and-count); a missing store, refused credential,
failed stream create or failed publish is a log line.
- The stream-json classifier (`stream_enrich`) and the `TermMsg` row
types plus `fit` move from the hive-agent binary into hive-sh4re, so
the subagent daemon publishes the rows AgentTermPreview already
renders. hive-agent keeps its LiveEvent classifier on top.
- swarm-controller: `GET /api/agents/{name}/subagents` and
`GET /api/agents/{name}/subagents/{subagent}/term/stream`.
- docs/swarm: what the UI shows and what the queue carries.
Closes#4827
The `--tools` list a harness session gets is not a constant: the base set
plus whatever the agent's `HIVE_TOOL_GROUPS` add (today, `web_tools` →
`WebFetch`/`WebSearch`). That resolution lived in `hive-agent`'s
`mcp_config`, which is fine while the harness is the only thing that
spawns a `claude` — and it is not: `hive-subagent-mcp` spawns one too.
`hive-agent` is binary-only (no `src/lib.rs`, no lib target), so nothing
can depend on it to reach `builtin_tools_arg`. The alternative to a
shared home is a second list in the subagent daemon, which diverges on
the first tool anyone adds to either — and diverging upward is a
subagent holding a built-in its parent does not have.
So move the base list, the `HIVE_TOOL_GROUPS` parse and the resolution
into `hive_sh4re::permissions`, beside `ToolGroup` — whose
`builtin_tools()` was already half of the answer. `hive-agent`
re-exports them, so `mcp_config::builtin_tools_arg()` still reads the
same at the call site, and `allowed_tools_arg` now derives its built-in
half from the same function rather than repeating the merge loop.
Behaviour is unchanged. The parse is `strum::EnumString` rather than a
`serde_json::from_value` round-trip through a `Value::String`: same
`snake_case` names (a test pins the two derives against each other),
without `hive-sh4re` needing `serde_json` outside its dev-dependencies.
It is now a pure function of its input, so the fallbacks are testable
without mutating the environment — which under edition 2024 is `unsafe`
and racy across a test binary's threads.
Refs #4416
`Coordinator::set_paused` wrote the marker directly with `std::fs::write`
from hive-c0re, which runs as the unprivileged `hive-core` user. The
agent's harness dir is chowned to the agent user on every container boot
(`user.nix`'s activation chown), mode 0755 — so hive-core can stat the
marker but gets EACCES creating or unlinking it. Pause therefore only
ever worked on an agent that had never booted; the read side works
because a stat needs traverse, not write, which is why the paused pill
and `is_paused` looked healthy.
Route both directions through hive-priv, the root helper that already
owns the other writes into agent-owned directories:
- `PrivRequest::SetAgentPaused { agent_name, paused }`, with the marker
filename constant moved to hive-priv-sock. That is the narrowest crate
all three sides share (hive-priv deliberately does not depend on
hive-sh4re, which re-exports it for the in-container resolver). A
private copy on any one side would break pause silently, since every
reader just sees "no marker".
- `write_agent_state_file` generalised to `write_agent_dir_file`, taking
the target directory: `state/` and `harness/` are both agent-owned,
which is the same reason both need root.
- resume unlinks via `remove_file`, which acts on the leaf and never
follows a symlink — an agent could otherwise plant a link at the
marker path and have root delete an arbitrary file.
`Coordinator::set_paused` becomes an async round-trip; its three call
sites were already async. Both directions stay idempotent because the
dashboard toggle and `hivectl pause|resume` fire without reading the
current state first.
Second increment of the per-crate README effort, covering the rest of the
infra/wire/priv column: hive-priv, hive-metric, hive-types, hive-sh4re,
hive-core-agent-sock, hive-agent-sock. Same shape as the first batch —
purpose + when-to-use, and point at the crate-root //! docs plus the
relevant docs/ pages rather than duplicating them. Wires
readme = "README.md" into each Cargo.toml [package].
Disjoint from the batch-1 crates, so the two increments compose cleanly.
