The docs, option descriptions and comments that named the swarm root, the
swarm CA or the hive CA as an existing trust anchor now name the secret
store's pki root or the trust bundle that holds it:
- docs/swarm/README.md, secrets.md, bao.md
- deploy.bao.clientCaFile's and gateway.verifiedProxyTo's descriptions
- comments in hive-c0re/src/meta.rs, hive-agent/src/swarm_queue.rs,
swarm-logs/src/auth.rs, swarm-controller/src/vcs_metrics.rs,
hive-forge, swarm-authelia, swarm-ci-runner, glue-bao-tls, swarm-bao,
swarm-grafana, swarm-otel, otel, hive-c0re, lib/hive-ca-trust.nix,
hive-forge/Cargo.toml and the flake-update workflow
Nothing behaves differently: every edit is a nix, Rust or TOML comment, an
option description, or a test assertion message. The Rust edits change the
workspace source, which this PR already rebuilds for hivectl.
Refs #4588
Rust's runtime sets SIGPIPE to SIG_IGN at startup, so writing to a pipe
whose reader has gone away returns EPIPE and println! panics. `hive-forge
<verb> | head` printed a panic and exited 101 where cat, grep and every
other pipeline member exit quietly.
101 is not cosmetic: to a caller running `set -o pipefail` it is a real
failure, so a shell script that pipes our output stops on a condition
that is not an error.
Restore SIG_DFL first thing in main, before any output. Measured against
the same command: piped to head, 141 (killed by the signal) with empty
stderr; unpiped, 0; the pre-change binary, 101 with a panic.
Closes#3972
forgejo-api 0.11.0 links reqwest 0.12 while the workspace is on 0.13, and
cargo unifies features per (crate, VERSION) — not per crate. So forgejo-api's
internal client was a *second* reqwest, built with neither the workspace's TLS
features nor the system trust store, and every https call it made to a gateway
name failed `invalid peer certificate: UnknownIssuer` while a client built in
this workspace succeeded against the same host.
Pinning to 0.11.1 puts one reqwest in the tree, which is what makes the
existing "feature unification gives forgejo-api our TLS backend" comment true
rather than aspirational — the claim is a fact about the lockfile, so the pin
is load-bearing and says so.
The reqwest feature list moves with it: `rustls-native-certs` and
`webpki-roots` were 0.13.1-era names that no longer exist, and `rustls` now
carries the platform verifier (OS trust store, honours SSL_CERT_FILE). Naming
a feature that is gone is a hard resolution error rather than a silent no-op,
so the list had to change in the same commit as the pin.
Refs #3391
hive-c0re, hive-claude, hive-forge and hivectl each ship a README.md but
never declared it in their package manifest, so cargo/docs.rs metadata
did not pick it up. Every other workspace member already sets the field;
this closes the gap left after the README backfill.
Now that matrix-sdk 0.18 is on main, reqwest 0.13.1 is already in the
tree transitively. Point the workspace crates at it directly.
reqwest 0.13 renamed the rustls feature set:
- rustls-tls -> rustls
- rustls-tls-native-roots -> rustls-native-certs
- (webpki-roots is now a separate feature)
hive-forge keeps its dual-trust story (system/native store for the
hive CA + bundled Mozilla roots for public CAs) by enabling
rustls-native-certs + webpki-roots explicitly.
forgejo-api 0.11 resolves cleanly against reqwest 0.13 (no conflict).
rusqlite 0.40 is intentionally NOT bumped here: matrix-sdk-sqlite 0.18
still pins rusqlite 0.37, so 0.40's libsqlite3-sys 0.38 would hit the
links="sqlite3" single-owner conflict. Deferred until upstream moves.
Enable reqwest's rustls-tls-native-roots feature for hive-forge so its
HTTP client validates against the OS/system CA store (rustls-native-certs)
in addition to the bundled webpki roots. Once the hive CA is embedded into
agent system trust stores (via the meta flake's security.pki.certificateFiles
wiring), hive-forge validates the gateway's self-signed leaf with no extra
env plumbing.
Additive: the bundled webpki roots stay enabled, so public CAs still
validate; the native store adds the hive CA. On NixOS the system store
already includes the Mozilla bundle, so the effective trust set is a
superset. Cargo unifies features across the build, so native-root loading
is enabled for every reqwest client — harmless, since it only widens the
root set.
Final piece of the self-signed agent-trust chain (host CA + gateway leaf,
then CA embedded into agent flakes, now the forge client honouring it).
Add `hivectl gateway {create-user,delete-user,list-users}` subcommands for
managing htpasswd files used by gateway Basic auth. Pure Rust bcrypt
(cost 12, $2y$ prefix nginx accepts). No external htpasswd binary required.
Also fix the NixOS module assertion: `cfg.auth ? htpasswdFile` is always
true in the module system (declared options always exist as keys); switch
to `nullOr path; default = null` + `!= null` check so the assertion
actually fires with a useful error when enable=true but no file is set.
Guard bind-mount and nginx config against null to prevent eval errors.
Update docs/gateway.md to show hivectl commands instead of raw htpasswd.
