Part of #5081. Follow-up to the review of #5131.
- Before this PR, claude read CLAUDE_REMOTE_CONTROL_SESSION_NAME_PREFIX
from managed-settings.json in every context. The environment generator
reaches every unit of the container's manager, including `machinectl
shell` (hivectl choom): machined starts it as a transient
container-shell@ unit (systemd 260.5 src/machine/machine.c:980-1004),
and every unit's exec environment starts from the manager environment
the generators fill (src/core/unit.c:5557, src/core/manager.c:3990-4001).
Shells no unit starts do not get it: `nixos-container root-login` / `run`
enter with nsenter + `su -l`, and getty logins go through login(1). So
hive-facts.nix now also exports the generator's output from
/etc/set-environment (environment.extraInit).
- The generator's read loop kept a last line only when it ended in a
newline; it now keeps one without.
- checks.script-test-agent-hive-facts runs the rendered generator and the
shell snippet (under dash and bash's sh) against sample files: both
facts, a planted LD_PRELOAD/PATH line, a last line without a newline,
an empty file and no file.
- identity.rs: hive_name()'s doc names the facts file as the source.
An agent with no matrix account has no `mcp__matrix__*` tools, so a
refusal that only says "use the matrix MCP tools" points it at something
it cannot call. `OPERATOR_SEND_REFUSAL` now names matrix for an agent
that has it, and tells one without it that there is no direct channel:
the operator reads its `set_status` line, its turn output on the
dashboard, and its logs. The allow-list refusal, the `send` tool
description, the MCP server instructions and the system prompt say
"over matrix if you have it" to match, and the helper-event bullets go
back to "ask the operator" without naming a channel.
Agents reach the operator over matrix now (#5115). A `send` to
`operator` is refused, by the broker and by the MCP allow-list check,
with an error that names the matrix MCP tools. The dashboard's Y3R C4LL
tab goes with it: the operator inbox, `GET /api/operator-inbox`,
`Broker::unread_for_recipient`, and the browser notifications that only
ever fired on operator-bound messages.
The harness no longer posts turn failures and plugin-install failures
to the operator inbox. Both are already logged at warn; a new Grafana
rule, `hh-agent-turn-failed`, fires per agent on the harness's
`turn failed` line.
Dashboard-to-agent messaging (op-send, the agent web UI's message box,
mark-all-read for agent inboxes) is unchanged.
Decisions per mara on #5115: q1 a, q2 a plus a grafana alert, q3 keep
dashboard-to-agent messaging and leave swarm-level code alone.
swarm-controller now creates `term-main-<agent>` for every live agent, in
the same one-minute pass and with the same config style as
`term-sub-<agent>` (#4897): subjects `$SWARM.term.<agent>` only, max_age
24h, max_bytes 64 MiB, discard Old, max_message_size from the queue's
max_payload. An existing stream is opened as it is. The agent keeps its
plain publish on `$SWARM.term.<agent>` and gets no JetStream subject.
`GET /api/agents/{name}/term/stream` creates an ephemeral push consumer on
that stream starting 100 rows back, so a swarm-ui terminal opens with
recent history and then follows new rows, in order, from one
subscription. Each SSE event carries the row's stream sequence as its id,
and a reconnect's Last-Event-ID resumes after it. Without the stream the
route falls back to the live core subscription it used before.
The stream is `term-main-<agent>`, not `term-<agent>`: an agent may be
named `sub-x`, whose `term-<agent>` would be agent `x`'s subagent stream.
Its one literal subject cannot match `$SWARM.term.<agent>.sub.>`, which
needs more tokens, so the two streams never overlap.
The reader gains `$JS.API.CONSUMER.CREATE.*.*.$SWARM.term.*`, the
extended create form whose last tokens are the consumer's filter. Checked
against nats-server 2.14.4, the trailing `*` also admits a literal `*` or
`>` filter, so a consumer under it reaches any terminal row, main or
subagent; those are rows the reader already subscribes to and reads with
`STREAM.MSG.GET.*`.
Closes#4826
The two report_compact tests build a Bus, which resolves the events db under
HYPERHIVE_HARNESS_DIR and panics when it is unset, as in the nix test
sandbox. Add a test-only paths::with_harness_dir that points the variable at
a temp dir under a lock, and use it in both the new tests and the existing
swarm_inference Bus test, which set the variable unguarded.
The turn-end path returned the /compact's success as the turn's outcome, so a
turn that had already compacted (reactively or per policy) was recorded as not
compacted when its queued /compact then failed. The outcome now folds the two
with `||`, via `with_turn_end_compact`, which the tests pin.
The turn-end /compact (operator button or the agent's `compact` tool) dropped
the compaction error with `let _ =`, emitted no note, and returned
`Ok(true)`, so the turn was recorded `result_kind = "compacted"` although
nothing compacted. The idle path already printed `/compact failed: …`.
Both paths now go through one `report_compact` helper that emits the done /
failed note; the turn-end path returns whether the compact succeeded.
Both proxy paths copied upstream response headers with HeaderMap::insert,
which replaces earlier values of the same name, so an upstream sending two
Set-Cookie (or Link, Vary, ...) headers reached the browser with only the
last one. Use append in both loops. Tests cover the http and unix: paths.
hive-claude 0.1.4 (hive-claude #28) sends the idle watchdog's signal as
SIGINT to claude's process group instead of SIGKILL. It then waits for
claude to exit, with no SIGKILL fallback. claude stops the commands its
Bash tool started when it shuts down on SIGINT, and a SIGKILL left them
running. This is the last SIGKILL of a claude process from #4999.
hive-agent's `idle_timeout` -> `Error::IdleTimeout` -> `TurnError::ApiStall`
path is unchanged. The difference is that the error now arrives only
once claude has exited. A claude that ignores the SIGINT keeps the turn
open until it is killed by hand or the unit stops.
The Cargo.lock change is only hive-claude's version and checksum. A plain
`cargo update -p hive-claude --precise 0.1.4` also moved seven crates'
Windows-only `windows-sys` edges from 0.61.2 to 0.52.0, unrelated to this
bump. The minimal lock passes `--locked`.
The turn-loop and web-UI docs, and hive-agent's watchdog docs and stall
note, now say SIGINT instead of "killed". That includes the ACP spots
that the previous commit's `Drop` change made stale.
hive-claude 0.1.3 spawns claude as the leader of its own process group,
and its `Cancel::cancel` and idle watchdog signal that group instead of
claude's pid alone. Commands claude started (a `nix build`, a test run)
used to survive a subagent `interrupt` and keep running.
Bump hive-claude to 0.1.3. The subagent `interrupt` call site needs no
code change: `Cancel::cancel(force)` kept its signature.
The harness's `/cancel` and `/logout` did not go through hive-claude:
they ran `kill -INT <pid>` on the claude child they found in /proc. They
now SIGINT the group that child leads, through `libc::kill`. A `claude`
child that leads no group (the `claude plugin` calls) shares the
harness's group and is still signalled alone.
Tests: an interrupted subagent's grandchild dies, for both SIGINT and
`force`, and fails on hive-claude 0.1.2; a harness cancel stops a
turn's grandchild, and fails when only the pid is signalled.
mara on #5034: "effort shares /models fate". The per-agent web UI no
longer sets effort: the `/effort` slash command, the effort picker,
`POST /api/effort`, `Bus::set_effort`, the `hyperhive-effort` writer,
`EFFORT_LEVELS`/`is_valid_effort` and the ACP effort-list payload are
gone, and `lib/modelEffort.ts` with them. The effort chip is
display-only and shows its source (`effort_source` in `/api/state`);
on ACP it stays hidden while the session offers no effort level.
The read side is unchanged: with no swarm value an agent runs an
existing `hyperhive-effort` file, else its agent.nix effort, else
medium. Existing files are not touched.
Refs #5034
The per-agent web UI no longer sets the model: the `/model` slash
command, the model picker, `POST /api/model`, `Bus::set_model` and the
`hyperhive-model` writer are gone. The model chip is display-only and
shows where the model comes from (`model_source` in `/api/state`). The
model is set on the swarm (swarm UI agents page, `swarmctl agent
inference set`).
The read side is unchanged: with no swarm value an agent runs its
agent.nix model, else an existing `hyperhive-model` file, else haiku.
Existing files are not touched.
With the picker gone, its model list goes too: `available_models` in
`/api/state`, the ACP model-list filter, and the harness's global
`HIVE_AVAILABLE_MODELS`. The subagent daemon keeps its own
`HIVE_AVAILABLE_MODELS` from mcp.nix, and the `availableModels`
assertion stays.
`/effort` (command, picker, route, file) is unchanged.
Refs #5034
post_mark_todos_done's body moves into mark_ids_done, which takes the
per-id dial as a closure, so tests cover the 500 and 200 responses without
reaching the live in-agent socket.
post_mark_todos_done dropped every dial failure and Response::Err and
answered 200 {"acked":0}, so the todos panel showed "marked done" and
cleared its checkboxes while the todos stayed. Any failing id now fails
the request with a 500 naming how many ids failed; the panel already
shows non-OK bodies as "failed: ...".
Whether a header goes out was split between `run()` (clear `last` on a
refresh) and `publish()` (skip a payload equal to `last`), and only the
refresh cadence was tested: deleting the clear kept every test green.
The decision is now the pure `due(trigger, last, payload)`, which
`publish()` calls, with tests that an unchanged payload is not sent on
an event, is sent on a refresh, a changed one is sent on either, and a
refresh that then fails to send is re-sent by the next event.
Behaviour is unchanged.
Refs #5034
The header on `$SWARM.agent-state.<agent>` went out only when a bus event
changed it, and the core subject keeps nothing for a late subscriber. An
idle agent therefore said nothing to a reader that attached after its
last change: swarm-controller after a restart showed `effective: null`
for that agent until its next turn, which can be hours.
The publish loop now also wakes every 60 s and re-sends the current
header through the same `publish` path (clearing the dedup state first).
Transitions still go out as they happen. Same subject, same grant.
An agent whose queue connection is down now logs `swarm agent state:
publish skipped` once a minute even while idle, so the
`hh-swarm-agent-state-publish-skipped` alert also fires for idle
disconnected agents, not only busy ones.
Refs #5034
Each agent now reports the model and effort it runs on, and where each
comes from (`swarm`, `agent_nix`, `local_file` or `default`), in its
turn-state header on `$SWARM.agent-state.<agent>`: `effort`,
`model_source` and `effort_source` join `model`. The shared
`swarm_queue_client::agent_inference::{Effective, Source}` types spell
those fields for both ends.
The Bus keeps a source next to the model and effort. `Bus::new` takes it
from the local fallback chain (`harness_state::local_model` /
`local_effort`, which now return the source with the value), a `/model`
or `/effort` pick sets `local_file`, and the swarm poller sets `swarm`
or, on a clear, the local chain's source. A swarm value equal to the one
the agent already runs is now applied once, so the source moves to
`swarm` and the header is republished; before, `next()` skipped it as
unchanged.
swarm-controller subscribes to every agent's header with the reader
grant it already holds for the state relay, and keeps the latest
inference fields per agent in memory (`inference::Reported`).
`GET /api/agents/{name}/inference` now answers
`{configured, effective}`, `effective` being `null` until the agent's
first header with these fields since the controller started.
`swarmctl agent inference get` prints both; `set` reads `configured`.
Refs #5034
swarm-controller keeps each agent's inference settings in a new
`agent-inference` KV bucket, one key per agent, and is its only writer
(`GET`/`PUT`/`DELETE /api/agents/{name}/inference`; `swarmctl agent
inference get|set|clear`). Every field is optional. Each agent reads its
own key every 10 s through a direct-get grant on that key alone, and a
set `model` or `effort` replaces the Bus value, so the next turn runs on
it and the badge follows.
The swarm value is applied without persisting it: `Bus::set_model` and
`set_effort` are split into a persisting setter and a non-persisting
`apply_*`, and the poller uses the latter. Otherwise the swarm value
would overwrite `hyperhive-model`/`hyperhive-effort`, and clearing it, or
a restart, would no longer find the agent's own value. An unset field
changes nothing; a field cleared after being applied goes back to the
local value (`harness_state::local_model`/`local_effort`, the same
resolution `Bus::new` uses), read again at the clear.
`subagent_models` is validated, stored and shown by `get`; no agent
applies it yet.
Refs #5034
The reader's subscribe allow-list spelled `$SWARM.term.*`,
`$SWARM.term.*.sub.*` and `$SWARM.agent-state.*` as literals, copies of
private prefixes in hive-agent and swarm-controller. A rename on either side
left the policy behind and the stream stopped with only a connection-level
server error.
swarm-queue-client now owns `term_subject`, `agent_state_subject` and their
`*_wildcard` forms, and `subagent_term::subject_wildcard`; hive-agent's
publishers, swarm-controller's relays and the policy all build from them.
Subjects are byte-identical.
The docs, option descriptions and comments that named the swarm root, the
swarm CA or the hive CA as an existing trust anchor now name the secret
store's pki root or the trust bundle that holds it:
- docs/swarm/README.md, secrets.md, bao.md
- deploy.bao.clientCaFile's and gateway.verifiedProxyTo's descriptions
- comments in hive-c0re/src/meta.rs, hive-agent/src/swarm_queue.rs,
swarm-logs/src/auth.rs, swarm-controller/src/vcs_metrics.rs,
hive-forge, swarm-authelia, swarm-ci-runner, glue-bao-tls, swarm-bao,
swarm-grafana, swarm-otel, otel, hive-c0re, lib/hive-ca-trust.nix,
hive-forge/Cargo.toml and the flake-update workflow
Nothing behaves differently: every edit is a nix, Rust or TOML comment, an
option description, or a test assertion message. The Rust edits change the
workspace source, which this PR already rebuilds for hivectl.
Refs #4588
Nothing submits an approval since scheduled prompts left hive-c0re, so the
queue only acted on rows written before that.
- hive-c0re: the approvals store and its migrations, approve/deny/
resolve actions, the ResolveApproval tail node (and meta_update's
approval_id), POST /api/approve and /api/deny, the approval views on
/api/state, the approval_resolved dashboard event, the orphan GC,
destroy/purge failing pending rows, and the approval rows in
get_loose_ends. DestroyBookkeeping loses the purge flag, which only
worded the approval-failure note.
- The CancelLooseEnd request goes: its only hive-c0re arm was the
approval one. cancel_loose_end handles reminder and todo in the harness.
- Wire types: hive_sh4re::approvals (ReminderStats moves to inbox),
LooseEnd::Approval, CancelLooseEndKind, HelperEvent::ApprovalResolved,
ToolGroup::Approvals, HostRequest::{Pending,Approve,Deny} and
HostResponse.approvals. HOST_SOCK_VERSION goes to 2 for the removed
field.
- hivectl loses the approvals verbs; docs/tools/hivectl-cli.md is
regenerated.
- The system prompt drops approval_resolved.
- The approvals table stays in broker.sqlite, unread, the same way the
operator_questions table was left when its store was removed.
- An `approvals` entry still in tool-groups.json is skipped with a warning
by ToolGroup::parse_list, like any unknown group.
- docs/agent-lifecycle/approvals.md is renamed to config-changes.md so the
code's doc pointers resolve; its content follows in the docs commit.
An agent's harness connects to the swarm queue with the agent's own
credential or not at all. The first connect retries after 5s, doubling
(7 attempts, about five minutes), with a warning per failed attempt;
when every attempt fails the harness logs an error and exits 1. Missing
coordinates (HIVE_AGENT_NATS_URL, or the secret store's BAO_ADDR /
HIVE_AGENT_NAME / certificate) fail the boot outright.
Previously the first connect's outcome was memoized for the life of the
process: a store 403 or queue refusal at boot left the agent on the
hive's shared client, or disconnected, until someone restarted it, and
an agent with no queue coordinates ran on without one. Both paths are
gone, with the hive-scoped subjects that only the shared client used.
The harness unit now restarts after 30s instead of 2s, so a swarm-wide
outage doesn't restart every agent every 2s, and has no start limit, so
it keeps coming back however long the outage lasts.
The hive's shared client credential is still imported into the harness
unit for swarm-logs; the two HIVE_AGENT_OIDC_*_FILE variables that
pointed the harness at it are dropped, as is the unset
HIVE_AGENT_OIDC_CA_FILE override.
With the fallback gone, the pieces #4944 added only for it go too:
swarm_input's skip-on-shared-client branch and swarm-queue-client's
connect_with_inbox_prefix. swarm-nats-auth's grant for the hive's shared
agent client is unchanged.
Closes#4909
Scheduled prompts are swarm-level now (swarmctl schedule, #4936). The hive
keeps the rows it has only so the operator can copy them over.
- hive-c0re no longer fires anything: the scheduled-prompts worker is gone,
and with it every create/edit/cancel/pause/resume/fire path (dashboard
endpoints, agent-socket verbs, the SchedulePrompt approval kind and its
approve handler). The store keeps open + list; GET /api/schedules stays.
- A v6 approvals migration drops schedule_prompt rows.
- Nothing submits approvals any more, so the submit path goes too:
Approvals::submit_kind (now a test fixture), the ApprovalAdded dashboard
event and its emitter.
- Coordinator::push_todo, whose only caller was the worker, goes, and with
it hive_host_sock::agent_todo_socket and hive-c0re's hive-agent-sock /
hive-sock-client deps.
- The schedules_changed dashboard event goes; nothing mutates the rows.
- Agents lose request_schedule_prompt, cancel_schedule, fire_schedule_now,
edit_schedule and list_schedules, the `scheduling` tool group, their
system-prompt line and their transcript formatters. `remind` is unchanged.
An agent's queue credential could subscribe to every subject in the swarm
account, so any agent could read every other agent's terminal, turn state,
operator input and request replies. Agents are the least trusted clients
on the queue (mara's ruling on #4901), so their grants now carry a
subscribe allow-list:
- an agent's own credential (the harness and its subagent daemon):
`_INBOX.agent.<agent>.>` and `$SWARM.input.<agent>`
- the hive's shared agent client: `_INBOX.client.<client-id>.>`
Hive and swarm-controller grants are unchanged (no `sub` claim, so still
every subject).
The clients connect with the matching inbox prefix, so the replies they
rely on still arrive: the icon write's JetStream ack and the schedule
DIRECT.GET. `connect_with_token` takes the agent name and sets the prefix
itself; the hive-shared fallback uses the new
`connect_with_inbox_prefix`.
The harness no longer subscribes to its input subject when it fell back
to the hive's shared client: that identity names no agent, so it cannot
be granted one agent's input without all of them. It logs that and
skips, the same as the schedule reader on that path.
Refs #4901
swarm-controller keeps every scheduled prompt (id, name, agents, body,
anchor, interval, paused) as one document under one key of a new
`schedule-definitions` KV bucket, so each change is a single
compare-and-set and a prompt exists for all of its agents or none. It
writes each agent's key of a new `agent-schedules` bucket as the prompts
naming that agent, without names or other agents, after every change and
on a one-minute reconcile pass. It is the only writer of both, behind
GET/POST /api/schedules and PATCH/DELETE /api/schedules/{id}.
`swarmctl schedule add|list|edit|pause|resume|rm` drives those routes over
the controller socket.
An agent's own queue credential is granted one more subject, the direct
get of its own key in `agent-schedules`. A KV watch is not granted: its
consumer create subject carries no key, so it would cover every agent's.
hive-agent's new schedule ticker reads that key every 10 seconds and fires
due slots as the same `schedule:<id>` todo hive-c0re's worker pushes. Fire
times are anchor + k*interval; the last fired slot per schedule id is kept
in the state db, so a body edit or list refresh never moves or refires a
slot, downtime fires the latest missed slot once, a restart refires
nothing, a one-shot fires once, and paused slots are skipped.
Refs #4914
gate the big-dir todo on agent_footprint_bytes() >= 3*BIG_DIR_BYTES (15gib)
in addition to the existing pct/empty-dirs checks, so a small agent whose
disk-usage% crosses the warn line because the *filesystem* is full (not
because this agent owns much of it) stays silent even when big_dirs()
happens to name one oversized subdir inside an otherwise small tree.
closes#4635
The agent view in the swarm UI gets a message box. The text reaches the
agent's harness straight from swarm-controller over the swarm queue and
becomes an inbox turn from the operator's authelia username. hive-c0re is
not in the path.
- gateway: `/api/` forwards authelia's `Remote-User`, replacing any the
client sent.
- swarm-controller: `POST /api/agents/{name}/input` takes that header as
the sender (401 without it) and sends `{from, body}` as a NATS request
on `$SWARM.input.<agent>`. No subscriber is a 503.
- swarm-nats-auth: the controller is granted publish on `$SWARM.input.*`;
no hive or agent grant names the family, so the harness can trust
`from`.
- hive-agent: a task subscribes to the agent's own input subject and
pushes each message into the serve loop's existing reminder channel,
renamed `local_msg_*` since it now carries both.
The harness does not reply to the request: no agent grant covers a reply
subject. The controller therefore answers 202 once the request times out
(2s) and 503 on the server's no-responders status.
Closes#4828
An agent's subagent daemon publishes each subagent's output as terminal
rows on `$SWARM.term.<agent>.sub.<subagent>`, as the agent, into a
per-agent stream it creates itself; swarm-controller lists an agent's
subagents from that stream's subjects and relays one subagent's rows as
SSE; the swarm UI lists them under the agent's terminal preview and
reuses AgentTermPreview, full-screen tab included, with no input.
- swarm-nats.nix: the agent token may also publish
`$SWARM.term.{agent}.sub.>` and `$JS.API.STREAM.CREATE|INFO` on
`term-sub-{agent}`, and nothing else of JetStream. A module-eval arm
pins the agent-token grant as an exact list.
- mcp.nix: hive-subagent-daemon loads the agent's store identity
(`hive-agent-bao-cert/-key/-server-ca`, the ones hive-agent loads)
whenever the agent has a store, not only on the opencode preset. The
agent's own queue secret lives in the store, so this is the credential
the harness connects with.
- hive-subagent-mcp: `swarm_term` reads the agent's queue secret under
that identity, connects with the agent token, opens or creates
`term-sub-<agent>` (max_age 24h), and publishes classified rows from
the sink every subagent line already passes through. The sink only
queues (bounded, drop-and-count); a missing store, refused credential,
failed stream create or failed publish is a log line.
- The stream-json classifier (`stream_enrich`) and the `TermMsg` row
types plus `fit` move from the hive-agent binary into hive-sh4re, so
the subagent daemon publishes the rows AgentTermPreview already
renders. hive-agent keeps its LiveEvent classifier on top.
- swarm-controller: `GET /api/agents/{name}/subagents` and
`GET /api/agents/{name}/subagents/{subagent}/term/stream`.
- docs/swarm: what the UI shows and what the queue carries.
Closes#4827
An operator's merge on the forge deploys a config PR through
swarm-controller's DeployRequest{rev}. The hive-side path that queued a
MergeConfigPr approval and merged the PR as `core` goes:
- the `/webhook/config-pr` receiver, its HMAC secret, the WebhookRegister
boot node and the org-hook registration; the hive vhost's `/webhook/`
location
- the 5-minute config-PR poll
- ApprovalKind::MergeConfigPr, its dashboard card, and the deploy DAG it
drove (DeployWindow, MergeVerify, DeployApply, FinalizeDeploy,
DeployTail), with verify_commit, the two-phase meta deploy, rollback
refs, the PR-failure comment and forge/pr_merge.rs
- `fetched_sha`, `sha_short`/`pr_number` on approval events, and
`sha`/`tag` on HelperEvent::ApprovalResolved: only the merge path set
them
`config_repo`, `merged_pr_for_commit` and `post_pr_comment` move to
forge/pr_comment.rs for the merged-rev deploy's refusal comment.
Approvals v5 drops stored `merge_config_pr` rows; a test reopens a v4
database holding them.
Closes#4850
Frame the turn loop runtime-neutrally: every turn runs through
hive-runtime, on claude (default) or an ACP agent. The loop steps,
harness binary shape and hive-agent README now say so; claude-only
failure detection gets its own heading; claude-invocation.md opens with
its scope and links the ACP side to hive-runtime/README.md.
Fact fixes: on-boot file paths (/run/hive-config, not /run/hive),
hive-claude is a crates.io dependency with no README here, hive-agent
has no client.rs or forge_notify.rs, the claude launch-config layer is
hive-agent's mcp_config.rs, agent forge/matrix accounts are
swarm-controller's, hive-c0re's dashboard is dashboard/, and the
deprecated hyperhive.gui.enable / hyperhive.extraMcpServers spellings.
Refs #3902
An ACP agent's `usage_update` carries `cost.{amount,currency}`, the
session's running total (opencode sums every assistant message in the
session). hive-runtime now reads it and turns the running total into
what each report added: a new session counts from zero, a session loaded
into a freshly started agent only baselines on its first report, and a
falling total adds nothing. The spend is held on the runtime until
`Runtime::take_reported_cost` drains it; claude's runtime reports none,
since the claude binary already exports `claude_code.cost.usage`.
hive-agent's existing turn-metrics meter records three new instruments:
- `hyperhive.agent.cost.usage` (counter, `model` + `currency`), ACP only;
- `hyperhive.agent.context.used` / `.size` (gauges, no attributes), for
every backend: the two numbers the web UI's ctx% divides.
The `hyperhive · agents` dashboard gets ACP cost panels on its cost tab
and a context-fill panel on its health tab.

addresses argus's review on #4842 (c88740): fetch's success path was
silent when the response parsed but windows() found nothing to record.
should_warn_empty tracks the same once-per-streak shape as the
existing token-skip logging, reset the moment a response has windows
again, and never logs the body.
Also notes in the observability doc that a past resets_at means the
paired percent gauge is stale.
A detached task polls GET https://api.anthropic.com/api/oauth/usage every
5 minutes with the OAuth access token from ~/.claude/.credentials.json and
records, per window the response names (five_hour, seven_day,
seven_day_sonnet, ...):
- hyperhive.agent.claude_usage.percent (%, 0-100)
- hyperhive.agent.claude_usage.resets_at (s, unix seconds)
both labelled window=<name>. Endpoint, the anthropic-beta:
oauth-2025-04-20 header and the {utilization, resets_at} window shape are
taken from the claude-code 2.1.283 bundle's own /usage fetch.
The token is only read, never refreshed: claude owns refresh-token
rotation and a second refresher can log the agent out. An expired token
is skipped until claude's next turn refreshes it. API-key agents

skip quietly, and the task does nothing when OTEL is not configured.
Request failures and non-2xx statuses warn with the status or transport
error only, never the body or the token.
When an ACP agent answered session/set_config_option with an error,
choose() only logged it, so the session's current value never moved and
offered_pickers() kept treating the refused model as pending: the picker
showed the refused model as current and hid the effort picker.
hive-runtime now keeps the refused value per category on Choices, exposed
as Choice::refused, set on the RPC error and cleared when the agent next
accepts a value for that category. offered_pickers() treats a refused
value as not settable, so the picker shows the session's actual model and
its effort levels.
The fake ACP agent gains REFUSE, which errors the first
session/set_config_option to that value.
Refs #4832 (ACP half only)
filter_offered_models logged its "no match" warning on every pickers() call;
pickers() runs on every /api/state poll (every 4s per open dashboard tab)
and on every post_set_model/post_set_effort call. Guard it with a
process-lifetime AtomicBool, threaded in explicitly so tests can use their
own instead of racing each other on a shared static.
Extract post_set_model/post_set_effort's ACP accept/refuse decision into a
pure accept_or_refuse() helper and add tests for it: an offered value is
accepted, an unoffered one is refused with 400, and an empty offered list
(before the first turn, or effort while a model switch is pending) refuses
with 400 too.
Not fixed here: a session refusing session/set_config_option leaves the
picker showing the refused value as pending indefinitely. Fixing it needs
hive-runtime to expose a real refused/pending distinction that Choice and
SessionChoices don't carry today, threaded through to hive-agent's
model_pending computation, plus a fake-agent test fixture that can
simulate an RPC refusal — a cross-crate change, not a small one.
Filter the ACP model picker's list by services.hyperhive.agent.availableModels: an
unconfigured agent (env absent) shows every model the session offers, a
configured list narrows the picker to whatever it names that the session
also offers (in the session's own order), and a configured list matching
none of the session's models (the claude names on an ACP agent that never
touched the option) falls back to showing everything, with one warning
naming the mismatch.
The nix option's default, the model-vs-availableModels build assertion and
hive-subagent-mcp's check_model rail are unchanged — this only touches the
web UI's picker.
An ACP agent's model and effort pickers now list what its session offers
(its `model` and `thought_level` config options) instead of the claude
model list and EFFORT_LEVELS. A pick goes through the same Bus::set_model /
Bus::set_effort -> Config.model / Config.effort path as on claude; before
each prompt the ACP runtime sets it with `session/set_config_option`, model
first, and only when the session offers that value. Options are re-read
from the set response and from `config_option_update`, so the effort picker
disappears when the chosen model offers no effort levels, and is hidden
while a newly picked model waits for the next turn.
The session's options reach the web UI through a `Choices` handle from a
new `Runtime::choices`, registered on the bus the way `canceller` is.
/api/model and /api/effort accept only offered values on ACP. The claude
path is unchanged.

An ACP agent's session is now compacted like a claude one: proactively
once a turn crosses the percent-of-window watermark, and on the
operator's /compact or the agent's compact tool. Before, the ACP
backend's compact returned Unsupported and no watermark applied to it.
- AcpRuntime takes the same CompactionPolicy as ClaudeRuntime;
make_session builds one PercentPolicy (with CHECKPOINT_PROMPT) and hands
it to whichever backend runs.
- The runtime keeps the commands each session advertises in
available_commands_update. If `compact` is among them, compaction sends
the prompt `/compact` on the same session, which is how the ACP spec
runs an advertised command. A proactive compaction runs the checkpoint
turn first, as InfiniteSession does.
- With no compact command, the checkpoint turn runs, the session is
archived, and the next turn starts a new one with the system prompt.
- Error::Unsupported had no producer left, so it and drive_turn's
"/compact skipped" arm are gone.
Refs #4391
`/api/cancel` stopped a turn only by SIGINTing a child process whose argv0 is
`claude`, so on an ACP agent it reported "no claude process to interrupt"
and the turn ran on. The serve loop now stores the session's canceller on
the `Bus` when the runtime has one, and `/api/cancel` uses it: the agent is
sent `session/cancel`, and the next wake prompt carries the interrupted hint,
as for a signalled claude turn. Without a canceller (claude), the SIGINT path
is untouched.
An ACP turn stopped by the idle watchdog (`HIVE_TURN_IDLE_SECS`) becomes
`TurnError::AgentStall(note)`, handled like `ApiStall`: park for
`HIVE_STALL_SLEEP_SECS`, requeue, and record `api_stall`. The TurnEnd note
is the runtime's message (how long the agent was silent, whether it had to
be killed, and that a silently retried provider error such as HTTP 429
looks like this), not the claude-specific `ApiStall` text. A cancel the
agent ignores is a `Failed` turn.

A permission request counted as an MCP tool call whenever its title
looked like `<server>_<tool>`, whatever its kind, and acp_permits
allowed MCP calls before looking at the kind. So an `execute` request
titled e.g. `hyperhive_x`, or a `fetch` without web_tools, was allowed.
MCP tool calls come with kind `other` (opencode's toToolKind maps every
tool it doesn't name, MCP tools included, to "other"). The runtime now
sets PermissionAsk::mcp_server only for kind `other`, and acp_permits
allows an MCP server's tool only under the `other` arm.
Refs #4391
acp_permits allows tools of the session's MCP servers, the read, edit
and search kinds, and fetch with web_tools; every other kind, including
execute, other and kinds it doesn't know, is refused. Before, anything
but execute (and fetch without web_tools) was allowed, which was only
safe while the preset's own config denied the risky built-ins.

AgentSession becomes hive_runtime::AgentRuntime, picked at startup from
the environment. Unset HIVE_RUNTIME keeps the claude backend, built
from the same title, store and PercentPolicy as before; drive_turn,
the 401 retry and the error mapping see the claude errors unchanged.
On acp the harness keeps the session id in the harness dir, answers
permission requests like the claude built-in allow-list (no built-in
shell, web fetch only with web_tools), maps runtime errors to Failed,
and reports an operator /compact as skipped instead of done.
Refs #4391
The harness now reads swarm/agents/<agent>/queue from the store itself,
under the agent's own store certificate, and holds it in memory only.
It reads once before the first connect and again on every reconnect
attempt (async-nats `ConnectOptions::with_auth_callback`), so an agent
whose secret was re-minted reconnects with the new value instead of
being refused until the container restarts.
hive-agent-queue-credential.service, the /run file it wrote, and
HIVE_AGENT_QUEUE_AGENT_SECRET_FILE are gone; queue-identity.nix now
hands hive-agent.service the store address, its certificate paths and
the agent name.
A failed or empty read before the first connect still falls back to
the hive's shared client. Each read is bounded by a 10s timeout, and
retries wait out the existing reconnect backoff (500ms doubling, capped
at 60s).
Closes#4783
The controller's OIDC client secret (client `swarm-controller`, used for
the queue connection, the auth-bridge bearer and the OTLP push) came from
an operator-placed file, `deploy.swarm-controller.queue.clientSecretFile`,
handed in by `LoadCredential=`.
Now `swarm-secret-publish`, which already copies authelia's minted OIDC
secrets into the store, also publishes this one, to
`swarm/controller/swarm-controller/oidc/client`. That path sits under
`controller/`, which no hive's policy reads. The controller reads it once
at start with its existing store certificate and holds it in memory, as
`swarm_queue_client::ClientSecret::Value`. If the store is down, it
retries for about a minute and then fails the start, so `Restart=` tries
again.
Policy delta: the controller gets `read` on that leaf, and the publisher
gets `create`/`update` on that leaf.
Removed: the `queue.clientSecretFile` option (both spellings, now removed
options with a message), its singleHostSwarm default, the credential and
placeholder, and the path watcher plus its restart oneshot. A controller
without a store identity is now an eval error, because it has no other
way to get the secret.
