The dashboard filtered by hive and agent only, so the review classifier's
API-key spend could not be told apart from the agents' subscription usage.
Add a service variable (agents or the review classifier) and apply it to
every panel and to the agent variable's own query.
The metrics store's container now runs the journal forwarder the other
service containers run, pushing to a receiver of its own on the swarm
collector (serviceProducers swarm-victoriametrics) as a new machine OIDC
client (swarm.victoriametrics.otel.clientId), registered by a glue file
wherever authelia runs and published to the store by the secret publisher.
The container keeps its loopback-only netns. The collector cannot dial a
unix socket, so swarm-victoriametrics-egress-relay, a socket-activated
systemd-socket-proxyd inside the container, takes its connections on
127.0.0.1:4380 and passes them to /run/swarm-victoriametrics-egress/egress.sock.
The host's nginx listens there and sends /swarm-victoriametrics/ to the swarm
collector and /api/oidc/token to authelia, both by name and verified, and
refuses every other path. nginx gets ReadWritePaths on that directory and
removes a stale socket before it starts.
The container cannot reach the store, so the client secret is fetched on the
host by swarm-victoriametrics-forwarder-oidc under swarm-metrics-auth's leaf,
the shape swarm-bao-forwarder-oidc has, and bound into the container
read-only. The forwarder module gains hostSecretFile for that: set, it renders
no fetch unit. swarm-metrics-auth's policy gains one read stanza on the
forwarder's client path.
The container drops --link-journal=host, and the host collector stops reading
it.
Also lists the forge publisher's and matrix-ctl's leaves in the forwarder
secrets row of docs/swarm/secrets.md, which the hive-forge/hive-matrix change
missed.
Each container now runs the journal forwarder the CI runner's, Grafana's and
the log store's containers run, pushing to a receiver of its own on the swarm
collector (serviceProducers hive-forge and hive-matrix). Each authenticates as
a new machine OIDC client of its own (swarm.forge.otel.clientId,
swarm.matrix.otel.clientId), registered by a glue file wherever authelia runs,
minted by authelia and published to the store by the secret publisher. The
forge's and the homeserver's browser login clients are unchanged. The client
ids are swarm-forge-collector and swarm-matrix-collector, not
hive-<x>-collector, which is the client id a hive named <x>-collector gets.
The fetch unit inside each container reads the client secret with the store
identity the host already holds for that service. The forge publisher's leaf
is handed into the forge container as an nspawn system credential, as the
grafana and log store containers do. matrix-ctl's leaf is already bound into
the homeserver's container, so its forwarder reads it at those paths, as
swarm-matrix-appservice-publish does; with no matrix-ctl identity the
homeserver's forwarder is off. Each of the two policies gains one read stanza
on its forwarder's client path. The host units that use those identities are
unchanged.
The two containers drop --link-journal=host, and the host collector stops
reading them.
Each container now runs the journal forwarder the queue's and the builder's
containers run, pushing to a receiver of its own on the swarm collector. Each
authenticates as a new machine OIDC client of its own
(swarm.<service>.otel.clientId), registered by a glue file wherever authelia
runs, minted by authelia and published to the store by the secret publisher.
Grafana's browser login client is unchanged.
The fetch unit inside each container reads the client secret with the store
identity the host already holds for that service (the runner's, Grafana's,
and the log store responder's), now also handed into the container as an
nspawn system credential. Each of those three policies gains one read stanza
on its forwarder's client path. The host units that use those identities are
unchanged.
The three containers drop --link-journal=host, and the host collector stops
reading them.
The gateway nginx serves stub_status on a loopback server of its own,
127.0.0.1:8085 (services.hyperhive.gateway.statusPort). The hive-tier
collector reads it with the contrib nginx receiver, which the pinned
otelcol-contrib 0.151.0 ships, so no exporter daemon is added. The
receiver dials http:// only (a unix: or http+unix: endpoint fails with
"unsupported protocol scheme"), so the listener is loopback TCP with
allow 127.0.0.1 / deny all rather than a unix socket.
The new gateway dashboard plots nginx.requests, nginx.connections_current
by state, and nginx.connections_accepted against handled, per hive.
Part of #5342.
Each container now runs the journal forwarder the queue's container runs,
pushing to a receiver of its own on the swarm collector as the service's
existing OIDC client, with the client's secret read inside the container
by the fetch unit. Their store identities are system credentials, so the
fetch unit loads them too. The three containers drop --link-journal=host,
which hid their journals from the forwarder, and the host collector stops
reading them.
The swarm-nats container now runs its own otel collector, which reads the
container's journal and pushes it to the swarm collector at
https://<swarm.otel.domain>/swarm-nats, authenticated as the queue's
existing OIDC client (swarm.nats.clientId). Records carry
service.name=nats and no hive label.
The collector lives in a reusable container module,
nix/container-modules/swarm-journal-forwarder.nix, which follows
swarm-bao's forwarder: a journald receiver over /var/log/journal with
merge and a file_storage cursor, an otlphttp exporter with an
oauth2client authenticator that requests its own client id as audience,
self-metrics on a loopback telemetry port, and the client secret handed
in through LoadCredential. Unlike swarm-bao, the secret is fetched inside
the container by swarm-journal-forwarder-oidc.service, under the
container's own store identity (the swarm-nats-auth leaf, which already
holds a read grant on secret/swarm/services/swarm-nats/oidc/client).
The fetch retries until the store answers, and the collector restarts
until the file exists. A 10-minute timer re-reads the secret and restarts
the collector when it changed.
The swarm collector's authenticated producer route was hard-wired to
swarm-bao. It is now rendered from swarm.otel.serviceProducers
(internal), one receiver, oidc authenticator, gateway location and
pipeline entry per service: swarm-bao (port 4391, unchanged names) and
swarm-nats (port 4392). The reserved-fragment and port-collision
assertions cover every entry.
The queue's OIDC client registration gains its own id as audience and
RS256-signed access tokens, which the receiver verifies offline.
swarm-nats drops --link-journal=host, so its journal stays in the guest
where the forwarder reads it, as swarm-bao did in 44009dc51. The new
swarm.nats.otel.telemetryPort (8891) keeps the forwarder off the
collectors' 8888-8890 in the shared host netns, with an assertion.
module-eval-nats-authelia gains four cases: the container's forwarder
and fetch unit on the store host and on a queue-only host, the
responder role's read grant, the swarm collector's swarm-nats receiver
on a host without the queue, and the client registration.

credentials.md, services.md and secrets.md each started with text that
belongs elsewhere, ahead of the heading: a cell fragment glued onto the
heading line, and two table rows. Put each back in its table or cell.
secrets.md was already broken on main (the swarm-builder row of the
per-unit table sat above the heading); the other two came in with this
branch.
Grafana's VictoriaLogs datasource now targets https://logs.<swarm> and sends
the same static bearer as the metrics datasource. The log store's vhost routes
a 64-hex Authorization bearer to a second swarm-metrics-auth instance
(swarm-logs-grafana-auth, cert role swarm-logs-auth, which gains a read on the
bearer's store path). swarm-agent. tokens and everything else keep their routes.
Part of #3742 (DoD 3, logs).
A new swarm service, `swarm-claude-login`, in its own container on the host
that sets `deploy.claude-login.enable` (defaulted on by `allSwarmServices`
where the host has the minter's store leaf, like the review classifier).
- swarm-ui: an agent card showing "login needed" gets a "log in" button.
Its dialog starts the login, shows the URL claude printed, and takes the
pasted code.
- swarm-controller: `POST/DELETE /api/agents/{name}/claude-login` and
`POST /api/agents/{name}/claude-login/code`, behind the swarm UI's
authelia-gated `/api/`, relay the steps to the minter as requests on
`$SWARM.claude-login.request`.
- swarm-claude-login: runs `claude auth login` over piped stdio with HOME
and CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR in a per-login scratch dir, scrapes the first
https URL, writes the code to stdin, and stores the `.credentials.json`
at `swarm/agents/<agent>/claude-credentials` with a KV v2 write, a new
version over any earlier one. The scratch dir goes on every exit path; a
login waits 15 minutes for its code.
- hive-agent: while parked in `wait_for_login`, reads that leaf every 30 s
under the agent's own cert and installs it only when its KV version is
newer than the one recorded in `<harness>/claude-credentials-version`.
An equal or older version is never put back, because claude rotates the
refresh token and the stored copy is stale after the first refresh.
- swarm-secret-client: `claude_login` paths and `SecretStore::read_versioned`.
- Credentials: a `claude-login` store leaf minted by glue-bao-tls, a
`swarm-claude-login` policy (create/update on
`swarm/agents/+/claude-credentials`, read on its own queue client
secret), an authelia machine client, and a `--claude-login-client`
grant in the queue's auth-callout responder. The unit runs as a static
system user.
The hive's own web-UI login is unchanged.
Refs #5268
The metrics vhost forwarded the store's read API (query, series, labels,
export, vmui, ...) with no credential, so anything that could reach
metrics.<swarm> could read every hive's and agent's metrics. mara ruled on
checked by an auth_request responder, and operators use their authelia
session.
- swarm-metrics-auth (new crate): auth_request responder on the metrics
store's host. Compares the presented bearer, in constant time, with the
one stored at swarm/services/<grafana client id>/metrics/bearer, read
under its own bao leaf and cached for 60s. Static user, the post-#5264
swarm-logs-auth unit shape.
- swarm-bao-grafana-metrics-bearer: on Grafana's host, creates that bearer
in bao if absent (create without update, Grafana's existing leaf) and
writes "Bearer <value>" into the container; the datasource sends it as
its Authorization header via $__file{}.
- The vhost: read locations take auth_request through a map (a bearer goes
to swarm-metrics-auth, anything else to authelia, no login redirect);
vmui takes an authelia session with the login redirect; forceSSL like
the logs vhost. The authelia subrequest location is renamed from
/__metrics_push_authz to /__metrics_authelia since it now serves reads.
- Authelia: the collector keeps every path; everyone else is refused the
collector's push and /metrics paths; group admins is admitted to the
rest; then deny.
- bao: a swarm-metrics-auth cert role and policy (read on the one leaf),
its leaf minted by glue-bao-tls, the CN reserved as a hive name, and
Grafana's grant gains create on the bearer leaf.
Fixes#3596
deploy.builder.enable defaults on under deploy.allSwarmServices (mkDefault),
where the host has the builder's store identity pair, as for the review
classifier. An explicit false still wins.
The two review tabs, runs and try-out, are one: /review. It is a column of
three sections: try a classification and the classifier settings, each a
folded bar (the settings' bar says what they are now), then the recent runs,
always open. The settings had been pinned under the try-out form; they are now
a section of their own. A new Disclosure primitive is the folding bar, a
native details wearing the Panel's classes, so the folded and open sections
read as the same surface.
/review-runs and /review-tryout are gone, with no redirect.
The metrics store's container gets privateNetwork = true with no
interface but loopback. VictoriaMetrics listens on
unix:/run/swarm-victoriametrics/victoriametrics.sock, a host directory
(root:nginx 0770) bind-mounted into the container, and every vhost
location that forwarded to 127.0.0.1:8428 now forwards to that socket.
The store runs as a static user whose primary group is nginx's gid,
with UMask 0007, so the socket it creates is 0770 group nginx. This
relies on VictoriaMetrics >= 1.153.0 honouring the umask (the locked
nixpkgs ships 1.153.0). nixpkgs' readiness loop curls a TCP URL, so
postStart is replaced with the same loop over --unix-socket.
swarm.victoriametrics.port is removed (nothing binds it any more), with
a mkRemovedOptionModule entry, and dropped from swarm-otel's host
port-collision assertion. The container's resolver unit is dropped:
there is no interface to reach the bridge resolver through, and the
store resolves no names.
The collector scrape, the collector push and Grafana's datasource
already reach the store by its published domain, so they are unchanged.
Refs #4815
Refs #3560
No access rule covered the push route on `metrics.<swarm>`, so a request
there fell to `default_policy = one_factor`: any logged-in session cookie
for the swarm could write samples into VictoriaMetrics.
The name now gets two rules with no `resources`: the collector's client
at `one_factor`, then `deny`. Only the push route and `/metrics` on that
vhost send an authelia subrequest (the read API, Grafana's datasource
included, is served with no check), and the collector is the one caller
of both, so a domain-wide pair covers them with no path or query regex
to slip past. It replaces the per-path `/metrics` pair the published
target would otherwise derive for that name. Both rules sit ahead of the
apex and store-UI rules, and authelia matches `domain` exactly, so they
shadow no other name.
Authelia 4.39.20, read from source: a rule with no `domain` wildcard
matches with `strings.EqualFold` (access_control_domain.go), an empty
`resources` or `subject` list matches everything (access_control_rule.go),
and the first matching rule wins (authorizer.go).
Fixes#5218
The store's own /metrics was scraped over loopback, declared under
deploy.victoriametrics.enable, so a collector on another host never had
a job for it. Declare it as a published target on every host instead,
keyed on swarm.victoriametrics.domain, and serve it on the metrics vhost
behind the existing authz subrequest. Authelia's per-target rules (one
collector rule, then deny) now cover it too.
The loopback entry goes, so a single-host swarm scrapes the store once.
The swarm settings gain `runtime` (`api-key`, the default, or `acp`) and
an `acp` provider record: an https base URL, the provider's model, and
its prices per million tokens. A PUT now changes only the fields its
body names, so the settings form that sends model, effort and limit
leaves the runtime alone; `null` clears `effort` or `acp`. The body stays
strict, and the stored document keeps #5192's lenient read.
The controller sends the runtime in each run request. On `acp` the
classifier runs one prompt on a new `opencode acp` session per
classification through hive-runtime's AcpRuntime, in a scratch
directory, with a config rendered from the settings. opencode runs
`read` and other tools without asking, so OPENCODE_PERMISSION
{"*":"deny"} takes every tool away from the model, and a deny-all policy
refuses any request on top. The title call, which resends the prompt,
is turned off. The deadline cancels the turn, and a turn that does not
end within 15s of that is dropped, which also covers an agent stuck
before its prompt. The answer is the final assistant text, as ACP has
no result event.
The provider key is read per run from
swarm/services/review-classifier/acp-provider, which the bao UI's
admins login may create and update, and reaches opencode through
AcpRuntime::with_provider_key and the trampoline's allowlist.
Each ACP classification's cost is computed from the configured prices
and the reported tokens, and added to
hyperhive.review_classifier.cost.usage labelled repo, pr, model and
currency.
Part of #5096
argus's review on #5177: the git credential helper answered every `get`,
so a config PR's own flake inputs could have git send the builder's forge
token to any host. The helper is now configured under
`credential.<forge-url>.helper` and itself answers only an https request
whose host is the forge's; a test runs it as git does and checks that
other hosts, http and non-get operations get nothing.
Builds are bounded: every `build_agent` node needs the one `builder` jobq
resource, so one runs at a time and the rest wait pending, and a newer
head cancels its PR's pending build (a running one finishes and writes on
its own commit). The builder also holds a one-permit semaphore around each
build.
`builder` and `review-classifier`, the forge logins swarm-controller owns,
join nix/reserved-names.nix, with a test tying the list to both constants.
The builder is now opt-in like the CI runner: `allSwarmServices` no longer
turns it on, since it runs unreviewed config PRs through the host's nix
daemon. mara had not answered atlas's question on the PR.
A new `swarm-builder` service, in its own container on the host that sets
`deploy.builder.enable` (defaulted on by `allSwarmServices` where the host
has the builder's store leaf, like the review classifier).
When an `agent-configs/<agent>` PR is opened, reopened or synchronized,
swarm-controller queues a `build_agent` jobq node. The node sets a
`swarm-builder` commit status to pending on the PR head, sends
`{agent, rev, pr}` to the builder over NATS request-reply
(`$SWARM.builder.build`), and writes success (store path), failure (last
line nix printed) or error (no builder / no reply) on the head. The node
fails when the build does, so the Jobs page matches the PR.
The builder builds nix/builder/check-flake's `check` with every input
overridden: hyperhive and nixpkgs to the host's own
`c0re.hyperhiveFlake`/`c0re.nixpkgsFlake` (what a hive there renders into
its meta flake), and the agent to the PR head on the forge. Evaluation is
pure and runs in the container; builds go to the host nix daemon as an
untrusted client. The private config repo is fetched with the token of a
new read-only `builder` forge account (in the `hives` team), which the
controller mints into `swarm/services/builder/forge/token`; git gets it
from a credential helper reading the child's environment, so it is in no
argument or URL.
Credentials: a `builder` store leaf minted by glue-bao-tls on the store
host, a `swarm-builder` reader policy (forge token + its own OIDC client
secret), an authelia machine client, and a `--builder-client` grant in the
queue's auth-callout responder. The controller gains a grant on the token
path and the secret publisher a deny on it.
This is the agent-config build check atlas scoped on #5081 (slice 3):
nothing is pushed to a cache, nothing is written to KV, and a red status
gates no deploy. The check composes agent-base + the config without the
values a hive adds (CA, docs, claude-code path, ports, input follows), so
it can disagree with a hive's own build.
All agents on a host reach the gateway from one address and share one
limit_req budget; a host boot is one cache miss per agent at once.
Defaults go from 5r/s burst 20 to 50r/s burst 500. The module-eval case
reads the option values.
Any request on logs.<swarm> carrying a well-formed swarm-agent bearer
made swarm-logs-auth do a bao cert login and KV read before it could
refuse, with no cap on the rate.
nginx now applies limit_req (zone swarm_logs_agent_auth, keyed by
client address, 5r/s burst 20 nodelay by default) on the internal
location that forwards to swarm-logs-auth, answering 403 when over,
since auth_request passes through only 401/403 and swarm-logs retries
a 401. The authelia path and the query location carry no limit.
swarm-logs-auth remembers bearers it has granted, keyed by SHA-256 of
the bearer, for --verdict-ttl seconds (deploy.victorialogs.authVerdictTtl,
60 by default), holding at most 4096 and evicting the oldest. Denials
are never remembered. A replaced or deleted queue secret therefore
keeps working at the log store for up to the TTL after its last check.
Closes#5190
The metrics vhost's `/` proxied every path to VictoriaMetrics with no
auth_request, so anything that could reach metrics.<swarm> could write
(`/api/v1/import`, `/api/v1/write`, ...) and delete
(`/api/v1/admin/tsdb/delete_series`) series. Only the OTLP push route
was gated.
`/` now answers 403. The read routes Grafana's Prometheus datasource
and vmui use are forwarded by exact or `^~` prefix location, each with
the matched path as its proxy_pass URI. The bare domain, which the
swarm UI's Metrics quick link opens, redirects to vmui instead of the
store's index page. The OTLP push location is unchanged.
Closes#5186
The metrics datasource defaulted to http://127.0.0.1:<port>, which only
reached the store when Grafana and VictoriaMetrics ran on the same host.
Swarm-tier services may not assume colocation (#4499), so the default is
now https://<swarm.victoriametrics.domain>, the gateway vhost the store's
host already serves. That vhost's query routes carry no auth_request, and
the Grafana container already trusts the hive CA for its authelia token
exchange, so no credential is added.
The logs datasource stays on loopback: the log store's query route needs
a bearer token Grafana does not hold yet.
Part of #3742 (item 4, metrics).
The docs tell the operator to write
`secret/swarm/services/review-classifier/anthropic-api-key` by hand in
the bao UI, but the UI's OIDC login for authelia's `admins` group lands
on `swarm-operator-viewer`, which is list+read on `secret/metadata/*`
and nothing under `secret/data/`. bao refuses the write, so an admin
can't set the key and every classifier run fails with "no API key".
The viewer policy gains `create` and `update` on that one leaf, no
`read`: a UI session still never sees a secret value. The leaf is a
named binding, shared with the classifier's reader policy.
module-eval pins the viewer's two stanzas and that no `data/` grant
carries `read`. docs/swarm/secrets.md and services.md describe the
write.
Closes#5148
Grafana's built-in admin kept the nixpkgs default password `admin`, and
Grafana's API takes basic auth whatever `auth.disable_login_form` says, so
the public vhost gave server-admin to `admin:admin`.
`swarm-bao-grafana-admin` creates a random password in the store under
Grafana's existing leaf when none is stored (`create` without `update`, so
the first one is kept), then copies it into the container.
`security.admin_password` reads it for a new database, and a `grafana cli
admin reset-admin-password` in `grafana.service`'s `preStart` applies it to
an existing one on every start.
Closes#5138
deploy.review-classifier.enable now defaults to allSwarmServices, as the
other shared services do, but only where the host has the classifier's
store identity (deploy.bao.reviewClassifierClient{Cert,Key}File). The
classifier module asserts that pair; glue-bao-tls.nix mints it only on the
host that runs the store, so a services host with the store placed
elsewhere would otherwise fail eval. An explicit value still wins.
The operator still writes the Anthropic key by hand; until then each run
fails with "no API key…" while the service runs.
- review-classifier.md: claude runs spawn through hive-claude directly
with no tools and no session (hive-runtime holds only TurnStop); the
answer's fields, the 500-character reason cap and what a failure does;
how the try-out page reaches the classifier; the settled parts of the
open list (API key path, try-out subject, --tools "" on claude).
The banner stays.
- services.md: a Review classifier section with the two operator steps.
- secrets.md, credentials.md: the classifier's leaf and the key row.
- network.md: the container's row. CLAUDE.md: the crate.
`swarm-bao-nats-callout-xkey` runs `ensure-callout-keys`, importing
/var/lib/swarm-nats-callout/{issuer,callout-user}.seed when present so the
keys keep their public halves, then fetches all three public halves from
the store. The verb removes each seed file once a read of the store returns
a seed; when the store's seed differs, it is kept and a warning names the
file. No tmpfiles rule touches those files, since one could run before the
import with the store sealed and leave the next run to mint a new key.
The server renders the issuer and user public halves from the fetched files,
checked for shape as the xkey's is, and does not start without them. The
responder reads both seeds from the store, so the copies into the container
and their LoadCredential entries are gone, and a tmpfiles rule removes the
copies a container still holds. `swarm-nats-callout-keys` is removed.
On the store's host the fetch unit is also ordered after
`swarm-bao-secret-publisher-policy`, so the publisher's denial of the seed
paths is written before the unit creates or keeps a seed there.
`deploy.nats.autoGenerateCallout`, `calloutUserPublicKey`,
`calloutIssuerPublicKey`, `calloutUserSeedFile` and `calloutIssuerSeedFile`
are removed with `mkRemovedOptionModule`, under `swarm.nats` too, each
message saying the keys live in the store.
The secret store's pki root issues every hive's gateway leaf and the
swarm's service names, so the root swarm-ca.service generated on the
host anchors nothing and its key is a secret outside the store.
- swarm-ca.nix is gone: swarm-ca.service, root.pem and root-key.pem,
and the swarm.ca.{autoConfigure,stateDir,validityDays} options. A
definition of any of them fails evaluation with a removal message
(swarm-ca-removed.nix), and a tmpfiles rule deletes /var/lib/swarm-ca
on every host. singleHostSwarm no longer sets a swarm.* option.
- hive-tls-ca drops the $root slot: trust-bundle.pem holds the store's
pki root and a hive CA's public ca.pem/ca-previous.pem only.
- hivectl peer-config no longer prints the scp line for the swarm root;
the store's pki root is the one step.
- The gateway's cert import no longer stands a hive leaf or a throwaway
in for a missing swarm-services leaf where it Requires= the issuing
unit: it fails, naming swarm-services-cert.service. The stand-in stays
where the gateway does not wait (no swarm name, or the store's UI
only, whose passthrough must start with the store sealed).
Comments and docs that named swarm-ca.nix, swarm.ca.* or the host root
now name the store's pki root.
Refs #4588
The CI runner was a hive deploy module: hive-ci.nix ran it beside the
forge, and hive-c0re registered it through the forge's admin API with
the `core` token, writing the registration token through hive-priv. It
could only run on the forge's host, and it kept an admin-scoped forge
token on a hive.
Now the runner is a swarm service:
- swarm-ci-runner.nix runs it in a `swarm-ci-runner` container on the
host that sets deploy.ci-runner.enable, reaching the forge by name.
It needs neither the forge nor a hive there.
- swarm-controller reads the forge's runner registration token with its
own admin token and writes it to swarm/services/ci-runner/
registration-token whenever it differs from what it last wrote. Its
grant on that path is create/update only.
- The runner's own leaf (CN swarm-ci-runner, role and policy of the same
name) reads that one path. swarm-bao-ci-runner.service fetches it into
the runner's EnvironmentFile and restarts the runner on a change.
- A pre-start step removes .runner when the daemon's journal since its
last start holds Forgejo's "unregistered runner" refusal (the daemon
exits 1 when its startup Declare gets it), or when .runner names
another forge address; upstream's pre-start step then registers again.
Removed from the hive side: hive-ci.nix and deploy.forgejo.ci.*,
forge/ci_runner.rs, PrivRequest::RegisterCiRunner and its handler and
ReadWritePaths entry, InfraContainer::Ci with hivectl's --ci and the
dashboard's hive-ci journal entry, HYPERHIVE_FORGE_CI_ENABLED, and
read:admin,write:admin from CORE_TOKEN_SCOPES: nothing else in hive-c0re
calls /api/v1/admin/*. The old ci options, under both swarm.forge.ci and
deploy.forgejo.ci, now fail evaluation naming deploy.ci-runner.
The forge's half of the old ci.enable, the actions/checkout mirror and
DEFAULT_ACTIONS_URL = self, is deploy.forgejo.actionsFromSelf.
Closes#4954
- swarm.serviceDomains lists every swarm service name on every host. The
store's issuing role is built from it, so the store now admits a leaf
for grafana, metrics, otel, logs, the bao UI and the apex whichever host
runs the store. Each gateway's own leaf stays narrowed by
localServiceDomains.
- swarm.matrix.apiUrl defaults to http://<swarm.matrix.gatewayHost>
(null when gatewayHost is null) instead of loopback on the matrix host.
- The authelia vhost proxies /bridge/ to swarm-authelia-bridge with the
prefix stripped, and deploy.swarm-controller.authBridgeUrl defaults to
${swarm.authelia.url}/bridge on every host. swarm.authelia.bridgeUrl is
removed.
- swarm-authelia-bridge admits only swarm-controller's OIDC client on
every request (403 for any other active token), configured by
SWARM_AUTHELIA_BRIDGE_CONTROLLER_CLIENT_ID (renamed from
..._OPERATOR_READER_CLIENT_ID, which gated ListOperators alone).
- swarm.peerHives is removed; swarm-wireguard.nix filters this host's own
hive out of swarm.hives itself.
Closes#4933
error-pages.nix paragraph (gateway.md:433) blamed a dead authelia
upstream on an empty user set; the real reason the route earns a
custom page is that a bare 502 there blames the proxy while the
gateway itself is fine. gateway.md:38 dropped 'yet' from the
placeholder-while-empty phrasing. services.md:109 corrected
'seeds an empty users database' to the disabled placeholder subject
swarm-authelia.nix actually seeds (swarm-authelia.nix:873).
Refs #3902
swarm/README.md opens with the swarm and its control plane; hive identity
and the directory follow as the substrate. Upgrade notes move into a
<details> block, the per-agent queue publishing detail into another, and
the one-paragraph pointer sections collapse into a link list.
Fact fixes, checked against origin/main:
- an empty swarm.hives fails eval (swarm.nix:341-354); it does not mean
"not in a swarm"
- swarm.domain is required with a hive (hive-network.nix:156,188), hiveName
with a hive, store or homeserver (hyperhive.nix:161-166)
- the matrix container trusts the hive's trust-bundle.pem at runtime under
self-signed certs (hive-matrix.nix:1046-1052, lib/hive-ca-trust.nix:76-85)
- singleHostSwarm also defaults the controller, localHostsEntry, the nats
callout keys and the bao bootstrap token path (local-defaults.nix:72-129)
- swarm-controller serves far more than /health: roster, wanted state, job
graph, agent creation and credential mints (main.rs:2874-2899)
- swarmctl user add needs --email for the forge account and refuses an
existing user (setup.md:67-71, swarmctl/src/main.rs:425-430); document
agent mint-identity and mint-forge-token
- agent creation also mints store identity, forge token and matrix
account, and declares the agent paused (main.rs:1822-1920, 247-248)
Refs #3902
Every hive with hyperhive enabled ran its own hive-forge container, and
its gateway answered forge.<swarm> with its own bridge IP, so on a
multi-host swarm each hive talked to its own forge.
deploy.forgejo.enable defaults to false and allSwarmServices sets it with
mkDefault, like authelia and bao; singleHostSwarm gets it through that.
The forge's OIDC client moves to a glue module gated on authelia, so a
split authelia/forge swarm still registers it. CI now requires the forge
on the same host, and the controller's forgeTokenFile defaults to null
where the forge is not.
Closes#4705
Refs #3782
Review response on #4620: not having SSO is not a supported
deployment, so the type should not permit it, and the docs paragraph
explaining why SSO is always present is redundant once the type says
so.
- swarm.authelia.url drops types.nullOr.
- Every consumer's null-arm is gone: two option defaults
(swarm-controller's and swarm's own statusPublish.tokenEndpoint)
that produced an empty/null placeholder when the URL was null now
unconditionally compute the real derived URL. Five now-dead
"assertion = ... != null" guards (swarm-authelia's bridge,
swarm-grafana, swarm-otel, swarm-nats, hive-forge, hive-matrix) are
removed as unreachable — in every case the same URL was already
interpolated unconditionally a few lines below the guard.
- grafanaNoSso, the module-eval fixture whose sole purpose was
exercising the now-unsupported no-IdP refusal, is removed along
with its dedicated test case; swarm.authelia.url = null is a type
error now, not a value that reaches that assertion.
- docs/swarm/services.md: cut the clause about setting the option to
null and the sentence explaining why the URL is co-location-
independent — both redundant now that the type enforces it.
`swarm.authelia.url` defaulted to `https://<domain>` only when this host
ran the container, and to `null` otherwise — so the address a client is
given was a statement about co-location rather than about the swarm. A
swarm has one SSO provider; every hive addresses the same name and
resolution decides which address that reaches, exactly as
`swarm.otel.domain` already works.
The option stays nullable: "this swarm has no IdP" is still expressible,
it is just now something an operator states rather than something not
running the container produces. The Grafana fixture that exercised the
no-IdP refusal says it explicitly.
Closes#4536
133 hits across 38 files, all previously classified during #4548's sweep
and deliberately left un-rewritten (predicate-adjective state/necessity
description, design-intent idiom, structural/type-description idiom,
no-single-actor topology claim, parallel-triple exception, vale
substring-match artifact — see hyperhive#4548's per-PR bodies for the
per-hit reasoning).
Wraps each one in a scoped <!-- vale write-good.Passive = NO/YES -->
pair (the supported mechanism — TokenIgnores has a known offset-drift
bug) rather than a blanket per-file or per-rule silence, so a *new*
passive-voice hit anywhere in these files still fails once the rule
gates CI (next commit). Table/list false positives (docs/swarm/credentials.md's
renewal-table cells) wrap the whole block, not each cell.
Part of #4546.
`5478e0bf` (`fix(#3554)`) made both store exporters unconditional and removed
the "somewhere to send" assertion, and touched no documentation — its diffstat
is four `nix/` files. `services.md` § *Telemetry collector (OTEL)* still
described the old shape in two places.
① "it writes the store above and exports to `otel.endpoint`, doing both when
both are configured" — only the upstream is conditional. `exporterNames`
(swarm-otel.nix:231) always carries the store exporter, with a comment saying
why: `deploy.victoriametrics.enable` means "this host RUNS the store", and a
swarm has one either way.
② "With neither `otel.endpoint` nor the store enabled, this module refuses the
collector at eval" — that assertion is gone. swarm-otel.nix:693 records the
removal at the head of the assertions list, and `5478e0bf`'s message states it
was a ruling rather than an oversight: a collector on a host of its own is a
supported shape, so refusing to build it would have made the fix illegal
exactly where the bug bit hardest. `git grep` finds no surviving assertion of
that shape.
The replacement paragraph states the invariant an operator can act on — the
exporters have no gate, the stores are addressed by swarm name — and keeps the
failure it prevents, since "an absent exporter is not an error" is the part that
made the old bug silent.
The stale claim dates to `80c9118f` (2026-08-18), 13 days before the behaviour
changed under it.
Closes#4214.
Read all 94 write-good.Passive hits across docs/swarm/ (ca.md,
README.md, secrets.md, services.md, sso.md, ui.md) in context. 44 are
genuine catches with a nameable, usually already-established actor
(swarm-controller, authelia, swarmctl, the controller, the gateway,
this module, hyperhive itself, or 'the operator' for manual actions) —
rewritten to active. 50 are legitimate passives or false catches, left
alone: predicate-adjective state descriptions (is expected/misconfigured/
broken), negative-capability idioms (no X is needed/placed, can't be
Yed/listed/fetched), config-state conditionals (whenever/when X is
enabled/configured/set), requirement-list labels (is required),
'is tracked as' idiom, backward-looking changelog facts with no actor
(was removed/verified/introduced), ambiguous-actor statements left
conservatively alone (agents are created and destroyed — could be
hive-c0re or swarm-controller, doc doesn't say), and a couple of
deliberately-parallel idiom pairs.
Several sibling-inconsistency fixes: a passive clause sitting next to
an already-active sibling describing the same fact/mechanism (ca.md's
two-bullet consumer list, README's 4-item WireGuard-mesh bullet list,
README's controller-registers-hooks paragraph, sso.md's followed-a-302
sentence).
Verified via vale on the whole directory, diffed against main's exact
baseline (not just the Passive count): write-good.Passive 94 -> 50
exactly, every other category unchanged (1 pre-existing
Microsoft.Contractions error at services... at secrets.md:182,
8 TooWordy, 1 Microsoft.We, 1 Microsoft.FirstPerson — same counts,
same locations).
Fixes the "obvious ones first" slice of #4042 (mara: do the obvious
ones first) -- 81 hits across write-good.So, write-good.ThereIs, and
write-good.Weasel, all in docs/. Each is a genuine sentence rewrite
(lead with the real subject instead of "There is/are", drop a
sentence-initial "So ", replace a vague intensifier), not a blind
regex substitution -- read every hit in its real file context before
touching it.
3 of the 81 hits were in CI-generated CLI docs (docs/tools/{hivectl,
swarmctl,forge}-cli.md) -- fixed at the clap #[arg(...)]/doc-comment
source in hivectl/src/cli.rs, swarmctl/src/main.rs, and
hive-forge/src/verbs/repo_add_collaborator.rs, then regenerated via
each crate's `markdown-docs` subcommand so CI's freshness check stays
green.
Verified: fresh vale re-run shows 0 remaining So/ThereIs/Weasel hits
and no new hits introduced (983->982, exactly the one incidental fix
this pass also picked up at docs/scheduler/observability.md:48).
cargo fmt --check and clippy clean on the three touched crates.
Remaining write-good backlog (Passive: 726, TooWordy: 207) is
judgment-heavy and left for a follow-up slice of #4042, not bulk-
rewritten here.
Resolving the 5 branches (contractions/foreign/auto/quotes/hyphens) onto
current main surfaced a few things beyond plain conflict markers:
- docs/scheduler/coordinator.md had 'auto-noops' turned into the
malformed 'autanoops' by the auto-hyphens batch -- fixed to
'autonoops'.
- main had moved (new prose, some option renames) since the batches
were generated against an older commit, so a handful of merge
conflicts needed both sides combined (keep main's updated content,
reapply the lint fix on top) rather than a plain pick-one resolution.
- A few genuinely new Microsoft.Contractions hits had appeared in the
moved-forward main and in content pulled in wholesale during
conflict resolution -- fixed the 2 real ones
(docs/integrations/forge.md, docs/turn-loop/claude-invocation.md).
- The other 'new' Contractions hits vale reports now
(docs/integrations/forge.md:281, docs/tools/forge.md:260,
docs/tools/hivectl.md:239, docs/tools/swarmctl-cli.md:28,
docs/web-ui/dashboard.md:457) are a side effect of the Foreign
batch's own 'i.e.' -> 'that is' substitution: vale's Contractions
rule can't tell 'that is' used as a copula (contractable) from 'that
is' used as a parenthetical clarifier (not contractable, would break
the sentence -- 'that's it raced the merge' isn't English). Left
those alone; noted in the PR description.
Final vale count on this branch: the only Microsoft.Contractions/
Foreign/Auto/Quotes/Hyphens hits left are the known legitimate skips
(ALL-CAPS/bold emphasis, vale's own false positives, and this
Foreign/Contractions interaction) -- verified with a fresh vale run.
Review pass on top of the previous commit (85a94671) turned up three
real issues its own vale-only verification didn't catch:
- 'has not' -> 'hasn't' fired inside 'has nothing', corrupting
docs/swarm/README.md into 'hasn'thing to say upward'. Restored
'has nothing'.
- ~44 hits where the original text was genuinely sentence-initial
('It is', 'That is', 'They are', 'What is', 'Do not', ...) got
contracted in lowercase, silently de-capitalizing the start of a
sentence. Checked each one's real surrounding text and capitalized
the ones that needed it.
- Confirmed (by reading the actual text, not just trusting vale) that
the 3 remaining 'is not'/'has not'/'it is' hits after those fixes are
vale's own false positives: it matches these as a bare substring with
no trailing word boundary, so it also fires on 'is nothing', 'has
nothing', and the already-correct 'it isn't'. Left those alone --
there's no real issue in the text.
Re-verified with a fresh vale run: the remaining 17 hits are exactly
the union of the 14 legitimate ALL-CAPS/bold-emphasis skips from the
first commit and these 3 false positives. Full accounting in
/agents/iris/state/haiku-batches/contractions-report.md.
