The last of the DAG-container removal. `tests.rs` navigated by the id
`submit` returned, so removing the container removed the tests' way of
finding what they inserted; they name the roots they assert on now, which
is the same handle production uses.
Three findings the port surfaced, each a behaviour change rather than a
test fix:
- Cancelling a rebuild's head no longer drops the job. `Reconcile`'s edge
accepts a skipped brace, and a cancel-cascade skips rather than cancels,
so the tail stays claimable. Dropping a job means cancelling every id the
insert returned.
- A directly-cancelled group root reads terminal while a spared tail still
runs; the cancel used to land on a node above it, which rolled up
Finishing instead.
- "One DAG per hive-wide op" is not expressible without a container. The
three tests asserting it now assert that every named root is top-level,
which is what makes the per-agent subgraphs concurrent.
Deletes two tests: one asserted only that two containers get distinct ids,
the other re-ran an existing case under a second name.
`Source`, `insert_group` and the stop path's `reason` string went dead with
the container and are removed with it.
Two views of the same graph existed: the typed `DagView`/`NodeView`
(`/api/state.rebuild_queue`, the `QueueDag` socket request, and the
`RebuildQueueChanged` payload) and `hive-jobq-wire`'s generic
`GraphNode` (`/api/jobq/graph`, `QueueNodes`). Every consumer has moved
to the generic one, so the typed pair is deleted rather than kept in
agreement with it.
What that removes, beyond the types: the `QueueDag` request and
`HostResponse::dags`; `Queue::snapshot`; `dag_view`, `visible_dags`,
`shown_on_wire`, `dag_finished_at` and `containers`; and the
`rebuild_queue` field on `/api/state`. `RebuildQueueChanged` keeps its
seq and loses its payload — nothing read it, and shipping the graph
both on an event and on an endpoint is the duplication this issue is
about. It stays an event rather than becoming a poll because
push-on-change is what every other live surface here does.
Two behaviours came out simpler for a structural reason. `await_dags`
needed two rules — settled means "gone from the snapshot" *or* "present
with every node terminal" — because the typed view evicted finished
groups; the generic view doesn't, so pending is just "some node isn't
terminal". And `state_of` in the tests no longer derives a roll-up at
all: a group root's own state is the scheduler's answer.
That second one found a bug. `cancelled_dag_still_runs_its_approval
tail` asserted the group reads `Cancelled` while the tail it exists to
protect was still pending — `rollup_state` flattened the surviving
child away and called the group settled. The root reads `Finishing`,
which is what the scheduler documents: own logic done, children still
running. The test now asserts that, with the reasoning inline so it
doesn't get "fixed" back.
Kept: `Source`, `State`, `PermPayload` and the `NodeId` alias in
`hive-host-sock::jobs` — shared vocabulary, still used by hivectl.
The last two claim-driven tests were both arranging node states to observe
something that never needed a run:
`settled_dag_leaves_the_snapshot_despite_its_skipped_branch` completed all
seven nodes of a rebuild to assert the DAG left the snapshot. That is one
predicate over a list of states. `shown_on_wire` is it, split out of
`dag_view`, and the cases can now be named rather than arranged — including
the empty set, the one input where "any" and "all" disagree. It takes
states rather than projected nodes so the caller skips projecting what it
is about to discard; a `NodeView` costs a `build_logs` lookup.
`failed_node_cancels_downstream_but_afterany_reconcile_runs` asserted three
unrelated things from one arranged failure: the cascade (hive_jobq's, and
already tested there), the wire filter (now `shown_on_wire`), and the
roll-up. `DagView::rollup_state` lives in hive-host-sock, which had no
tests at all — it does now, next to the invariant, covering the ordering
its own doc comment says has silently disagreed with the frontend before.
With nothing left claiming, `Claimed` / `ClaimReady` / `CompleteNode` /
`claim_one` / `settle_rebuild_tail` are deleted. Claim/complete sites in
`job_queue/tests.rs`: 109 -> 0.
jobq narrows to match: `settle` is gone (it was a `claim_one` loop
returning a Vec, and its only callers were tests — it lives in the test
module now), `claim_one` is private, and `complete_growing` is
`pub(crate)`. `claim_next` is the whole run-loop surface.
`complete` stays `pub` for one caller, noted at the definition: `submit`
completes a group root with no logic of its own so it parks in `Finishing`
and its children unblock. That is a statement about the node, not an event
to report, and it wants to be expressible at insert time.
Per mara's review on #2896: has_log: bool was fully redundant once
build_log_id: Option<i64> existed alongside it (has_log was always
just build_log_id.is_some()). Dropped has_log, threading the single
Option<i64> field through job_queue::mod.rs, the hivectl NodeView
test-helper literal, and the one remaining frontend consumer
(findLiveBuild's live-log-panel gate, which now checks
build_log_id != null instead of the separate bool).
Also fixed a now-stale doc comment on GET /api/build-log/{node_id}
that claimed the dashboard used on-demand node-id fetches "instead
of an inline build_log_id on the wire" -- no longer true after this
PR put one there for the BUILD L0GS deep-link.
cargo build/clippy/test clean across the three touched crates; nix
fmt clean; frontend build verified (0 has_log references, 3
build_log_id references in the built builds.js bundle).
Fixes hyperhive#2895. The rebuild-queue tree's per-node log icon (the
printer-glyph "open" affordance next to each node in the R3BU1LD
QU3U3 tab) linked directly to the raw-text download endpoint
(/api/build-log/<node_id>/raw, which sets Content-Disposition:
attachment server-side) -- surprising, since nothing about that icon
signals "this leaves the app", unlike the other two explicit
"download raw"/"raw" links elsewhere on the page.
Point it at the existing ?id=N#buildlogs deep-link into the BUILD
L0GS tab instead (builds.js's fetchBuild already auto-expands +
scrolls to the matching row there). That deep-link's id is the
build-log history row id -- a different id space than the queue
tree's NodeId, and wasn't exposed to the frontend before (only a
derived has_log bool was). Added NodeView.build_log_id: Option<i64>
to the wire type alongside the existing has_log (kept, since
findLiveBuild's separate live-log-panel gate still needs a plain
bool), threaded through job_queue::mod.rs, updated hivectl's NodeView
test-helper literal.

untouched). cargo build/clippy/test clean across the three touched
crates (hive-c0re, hive-host-sock, hivectl); nix fmt clean; frontend
build verified (grep for build_log_id in the built builds.js bundle).
`hive_host_sock::jobs::State` was a hand-maintained copy of
`hive_jobq::State` — five variants spelled the same in both, kept in sync
by whoever remembered. Adding `Skipped` last week meant adding it twice.
The wire crate now re-exports the scheduler's enum and `to_wire_state` is
gone.
Two states that were hidden now reach clients. `to_wire_state` renamed
`Pending` to `Queued` and folded `Finishing` into `Running`, so the
dashboard could not distinguish a node waiting on its dependencies from
one whose own work is done while its sub-nodes still run. Both are now
visible, and consumers say which they mean.
Every consumer had to move with it, and only the Rust ones said so: the
exhaustive matches in `hivectl` and `DagView::rollup_state` failed to
compile, while the dashboard's fourteen string comparisons would have
gone quietly wrong — a `finishing` node no longer counting as running,
a `pending` node no longer as queued.
The frontend also builds CSS class names out of the state string
(`rqe-` + state, `rqe-node-` + state) and keys its glyph map on it, all
lowercase. Those go through a `stateSlug` helper now; comparisons use the
wire spelling, presentation lowercases. Without that split every queue
entry and node chip would have silently lost its styling.
Dropping the `State as JobState` alias in hive-c0re falls out of this:
the alias only existed to tell two `State` types apart, and there is one
now.
A node ruled out by its own dependency edges settles `Skipped` host-side,
but the wire folded it into `Cancelled` and `dag_view` filtered it out
entirely, so a client never saw which branch a run didn't take. Post-#2785
that is not a rare shape: every approval DAG has two not-taken tails and
every rebuild has one, on the happy path as much as on failure.
`State` gains `Skipped`, and it counts as terminal — the wait loops in
hivectl's progress display and the daemon's dag-settled check decide
"finished" with `all(is_terminal)`, so omitting it would hang them on
essentially every DAG.
`dag_view` now emits skipped nodes but no longer lets them keep a DAG
alive. Serialization and completion were the same expression: a DAG left
the snapshot because its nodes had all been filtered away. Keeping skipped
nodes on the wire under that rule would pin every finished deploy in the
queue view forever, so the completion test is now its own flag.
`rollupState` in the dashboard gains the matching arm. It has no `done`
case — `done` is inferred by falling off the wire — so its trailing
`return 'queued'` catches anything it doesn't recognise, and a green
deploy would have read as permanently queued the moment the backend
started emitting the new state. The Rust and JS roll-ups have silently
disagreed before; they are edited together here and say so.
Review catch from argus on #2770: with the terminal hook gone, cancel
spares the DAG's tail node so it can report the cancellation — which
leaves that node `Pending` until the scheduler's next pass.
`post_rebuild_queue_cancel` emits its snapshot synchronously, and
`rollup_state` ranked `Queued` above `Cancelled`, so the operator who
just cancelled a DAG saw it go back to **Queued**: "the cancel didn't
take". Asserted in `cancel_clears_queued_dag`, which failed before this.
Fixing it surfaced an older disagreement. `builds.js::rollupState` has
always been `failed > cancelled > running > queued`; the Rust was
`failed > running > queued > cancelled`. The two had silently diverged
under a doc-comment claiming they agree. Harmless until now only because
cancelled nodes never coexisted with live ones — a spared tail running
over cancelled work would have rendered `Running` host-side and
`Cancelled` in the dashboard.
The JS was the correct side, so the Rust moves to match it exactly:
`Failed > Cancelled > Running > Queued > Done`. No frontend change.
The DagView / NodeView / Source / State / PermPayload types only ever
travel on the host admin socket and the dashboard channels hive-c0re
serves off the same snapshot; their whole consumer set is hive-c0re,
hivectl and the socket protocol crate itself. Living in hive-sh4re made
the five other crates that depend on it carry job-queue types they never
name.
Pure move: git mv of the module plus the import sweep, no type changes.
hive-sh4re keeps its own chrono (wire_time still needs it).
