network.md listed matrix among the shared-netns containers and the
private-netns list named only agents and the CI runner; it now says
every privateNetwork container keeps its own firewall. The authelia
module no longer calls the matrix container shared, and the hive-c0re
comment on having no homeserver fallback no longer names port 8008.
Part of #4815.
tuwunel bound `0.0.0.0:<httpPort>` in the host netns, so the homeserver
port was open on every host address, and the gateway proxied to it on
host loopback.
The container now sets `privateNetwork = true` and hangs off the hive
bridge with a DHCP lease, the same attach the CI runner, builder and
review classifier use (resolvconf on, `networking.nameservers` the bridge
IP). tuwunel listens only on `/run/hive-matrix/tuwunel.sock`, a host
directory (root:nginx 0770) bind-mounted into the container; its primary
group is nginx's gid and the socket is 0660. The gateway's `/_matrix/`
location proxies to the socket.
The static resolv.conf goes: it existed because resolvconf's host
tracking came up empty in the shared netns.
`swarm.matrix.httpPort` and `{swarm,deploy}.matrix.openFirewall` are
removed with a message: there is no host port to choose or open. The
`.well-known/matrix/*` fallback to `<hive>:<httpPort>` is dropped with
them; it only rendered with `gatewayHost = null`, which the homeserver's
SSO assertion already rejects.
Part of #4815.
The socket is wanted by sockets.target and nothing orders the wireguard
unit before it, so the mesh address can be missing at bind time
(EADDRNOTAVAIL) and the receiver never listens. FreeBind lets the bind
succeed regardless, and also covers the interface coming back after a flap.
Also assert the mesh address is not a wildcard, which the comment above the
socket already claimed, and cover the rendered socket in a module-eval case.
Grafana runs with metrics.enabled and no basic_auth_*, so its Prometheus
exposition was served to any anonymous client of grafana.<swarm> through
the published vhost's `location "/"`. Add an exact-match `= /metrics`
location returning 403 there. The loopback `grafana-metrics` vhost and
the collector's scrape of it are unchanged.
Comments on the metricsPort option and the loopback vhost now state that
the published vhost refuses /metrics; the gateway doc says the same.
A module-eval case pins the refusing location and that `/` still proxies.
Remove deploy.swarm-ui.enable. Every reader (the swarm-ui vhost, the
authelia operator rule for the swarm apex, hive-network's
anyServiceEnabled) now reads deploy.swarm-controller.enable, and the
controller's webhook public URL is gated on the swarm domain alone,
since the vhost it names exists wherever the daemon does.
Both spellings of the old switch (deploy.swarm-ui.enable and the
already-renamed swarm.ui.enable) become mkRemovedOptionModule entries,
so a host that still sets either fails evaluation with a message
naming the controller toggle instead of silently changing.
Ruling (mara, #3742): "swarm-ui always runs wherever controller runs".
Part of #3742
- review-classifier.md: claude runs spawn through hive-claude directly
with no tools and no session (hive-runtime holds only TurnStop); the
answer's fields, the 500-character reason cap and what a failure does;
how the try-out page reaches the classifier; the settled parts of the
open list (API key path, try-out subject, --tools "" on claude).
The banner stays.
- services.md: a Review classifier section with the two operator steps.
- secrets.md, credentials.md: the classifier's leaf and the key row.
- network.md: the container's row. CLAUDE.md: the crate.
The gateway leaf comes from the store's pki mount, so a hive CA's
certificates anchor nothing and its key is a secret outside the store.
- hive-tls-ca writes trust-bundle.pem from swarm-services-root.pem alone;
the ca.pem and ca-previous.pem slots are gone.
- Every host deletes ca.pem, ca-previous.pem and ca-key.pem in
deploy.hive-controller.tls.stateDir with tmpfiles `r` rules that follow
the option. The removal shim, now host-ca-removed.nix, holds these
beside the /var/lib/swarm-ca rule and the swarm.ca.* removals.
- deploy.bao.clientCaFile, deploy.bao.serverCaFile and
deploy.swarm-controller.hiveClientCaFile naming /var/lib/swarm-ca or one
of the deleted hive CA files fail evaluation, naming the store's mTLS CA
(/var/lib/swarm-bao-pki/ca.pem on the store's host) as the replacement.
module-eval hive-tls covers the single-anchor bundle, the deletion (incl.
a relocated stateDir) and the assertion on all three options.
Refs #4588
The secret store's pki root issues every hive's gateway leaf and the
swarm's service names, so the root swarm-ca.service generated on the
host anchors nothing and its key is a secret outside the store.
- swarm-ca.nix is gone: swarm-ca.service, root.pem and root-key.pem,
and the swarm.ca.{autoConfigure,stateDir,validityDays} options. A
definition of any of them fails evaluation with a removal message
(swarm-ca-removed.nix), and a tmpfiles rule deletes /var/lib/swarm-ca
on every host. singleHostSwarm no longer sets a swarm.* option.
- hive-tls-ca drops the $root slot: trust-bundle.pem holds the store's
pki root and a hive CA's public ca.pem/ca-previous.pem only.
- hivectl peer-config no longer prints the scp line for the swarm root;
the store's pki root is the one step.
- The gateway's cert import no longer stands a hive leaf or a throwaway
in for a missing swarm-services leaf where it Requires= the issuing
unit: it fails, naming swarm-services-cert.service. The stand-in stays
where the gateway does not wait (no swarm name, or the store's UI
only, whose passthrough must start with the store sealed).
Comments and docs that named swarm-ca.nix, swarm.ca.* or the host root
now name the store's pki root.
Refs #4588
The CI runner was a hive deploy module: hive-ci.nix ran it beside the
forge, and hive-c0re registered it through the forge's admin API with
the `core` token, writing the registration token through hive-priv. It
could only run on the forge's host, and it kept an admin-scoped forge
token on a hive.
Now the runner is a swarm service:
- swarm-ci-runner.nix runs it in a `swarm-ci-runner` container on the
host that sets deploy.ci-runner.enable, reaching the forge by name.
It needs neither the forge nor a hive there.
- swarm-controller reads the forge's runner registration token with its
own admin token and writes it to swarm/services/ci-runner/
registration-token whenever it differs from what it last wrote. Its
grant on that path is create/update only.
- The runner's own leaf (CN swarm-ci-runner, role and policy of the same
name) reads that one path. swarm-bao-ci-runner.service fetches it into
the runner's EnvironmentFile and restarts the runner on a change.
- A pre-start step removes .runner when the daemon's journal since its
last start holds Forgejo's "unregistered runner" refusal (the daemon
exits 1 when its startup Declare gets it), or when .runner names
another forge address; upstream's pre-start step then registers again.
Removed from the hive side: hive-ci.nix and deploy.forgejo.ci.*,
forge/ci_runner.rs, PrivRequest::RegisterCiRunner and its handler and
ReadWritePaths entry, InfraContainer::Ci with hivectl's --ci and the
dashboard's hive-ci journal entry, HYPERHIVE_FORGE_CI_ENABLED, and
read:admin,write:admin from CORE_TOKEN_SCOPES: nothing else in hive-c0re
calls /api/v1/admin/*. The old ci options, under both swarm.forge.ci and
deploy.forgejo.ci, now fail evaluation naming deploy.ci-runner.
The forge's half of the old ci.enable, the actions/checkout mirror and
DEFAULT_ACTIONS_URL = self, is deploy.forgejo.actionsFromSelf.
Closes#4954
config-changes.md (was approvals.md) describes config PRs, the meta flake
and helper events; the approval queue, its kinds, the withdraw path, the
job-queue dispatch and ApprovalResolved go. Every other page drops the
approvals table, endpoints, event, tool group, hivectl verbs, dashboard
section and the loose-end/cancel kind, and links to the renamed page.
The hive-domain vhost renders only where a hive runs. On a host without
one the only certificate is the swarm-services leaf, which does not name
the hive domain, so a homeserver host without a hive serves matrix on the
homeserver's own name only; apex matrix discovery is #4878.
Comments and test names describe the code's current behaviour.
Refs #4588
The hive-domain vhost renders where a hive or the homeserver runs. Its
matrix .well-known JSON and /matrix/ redirect are served wherever the
homeserver runs; the dashboard, swagger UI, agent routes and the
agents.conf include only where a hive runs, since they proxy to hive-c0re.
The gateway doc's vhost map says which rows exist without a hive, and the
trust-bundle text describes ca.pem by what it is rather than as retired.
Refs #4588
A gateway host without a hive whose only swarm name is the store's UI no
longer waits for swarm-services-cert: its nginx carries the stream
passthrough to the store and must come up while the store is sealed. Until
the services leaf lands, hive-gateway-self-signed-cert installs a throwaway
self-signed pair on the default and swarm-services paths there; on a host
without a hive it never references the hive leaf.
A host without a hive also no longer mints the hive-leaf identity or
defaults the options pointing at it, and does not render the hive-domain
vhost, whose upstream is hive-c0re.
Refs #4588
hive-tls-ca no longer deletes a ca-key.pem an earlier generation left:
nothing reads it, and leaving it means a rollback finds the old key instead
of minting a new anchor. Deleting it moves to PR 3, beside dropping ca.pem
from the trust bundle.
hive-tls-resign now also re-issues when the leaf's public key differs from
the key file's. The leaf and key are moved into place by two renames, and an
interrupted pair left a certificate beside the wrong key that the validity
check accepted.
Refs #4588
Every hive gets its own store identity (CN
<deploy.bao.hiveLeafCommonNamePrefix>-<hive>) and its own role on the
existing pki mount (<deploy.bao.hiveLeafPkiRolePrefix>-<hive>), whose
allowed_domains is the hive's domain and *.<domain>. The policy grants
update on that one issue path. swarm-bao-hive-leaf-policy writes role,
policy and cert-auth role for every hive in swarm.hives; the store's host
mints its own hive's identity in glue-bao-tls.nix and a new glue file
points deploy.hive-controller.tls.baoHiveIdentity{Cert,Key}File at it.
Hives on other hosts place it by hand. swarm.nix reserves the composed CN.
hive-tls-ca no longer generates a hive CA or signs a leaf: caGenScript,
signLeafScript/signHiveLeaf and the adoption block are gone, ca-key.pem
is deleted where it exists, and the unit only assembles trust-bundle.pem.
The retired ca.pem/ca-previous.pem stay in the bundle so leaves they
signed keep verifying.
hive-tls-resign becomes the bao issuance: at boot, on deploy and from a
daily timer it re-issues when the leaf is missing, past half the role's
lifetime, missing a name, or not chained to the store's pki root. Nothing
orders the gateway after it, so a valid leaf on disk never waits on the
store; a failed renewal leaves the leaf in place. A missing identity
fails the unit naming both options, as does the root fetch on a hive
fronting no swarm name, which now presents this identity instead of the
reader cert.
caValidityDays and leafValidityDays are removed (both spellings), since
nothing reads them.
Refs #4588
- swarm.serviceDomains lists every swarm service name on every host. The
store's issuing role is built from it, so the store now admits a leaf
for grafana, metrics, otel, logs, the bao UI and the apex whichever host
runs the store. Each gateway's own leaf stays narrowed by
localServiceDomains.
- swarm.matrix.apiUrl defaults to http://<swarm.matrix.gatewayHost>
(null when gatewayHost is null) instead of loopback on the matrix host.
- The authelia vhost proxies /bridge/ to swarm-authelia-bridge with the
prefix stripped, and deploy.swarm-controller.authBridgeUrl defaults to
${swarm.authelia.url}/bridge on every host. swarm.authelia.bridgeUrl is
removed.
- swarm-authelia-bridge admits only swarm-controller's OIDC client on
every request (403 for any other active token), configured by
SWARM_AUTHELIA_BRIDGE_CONTROLLER_CLIENT_ID (renamed from
..._OPERATOR_READER_CLIENT_ID, which gated ListOperators alone).
- swarm.peerHives is removed; swarm-wireguard.nix filters this host's own
hive out of swarm.hives itself.
Closes#4933
Rewrites the config-change flow around the forge merge and the
DeployRequest{rev} deploy, drops the MergeConfigPr approval, its deploy
DAG, the hive's `/webhook/` route and the `core` merge allowlist from
the docs, and states that operators join the `operators` team by hand.
Refs #4850
The swarm-controller builds the Forge quick link from
services.hyperhive.swarm.forge.domain, replacing hive-forge/default.nix's
per-host entry, so all seven swarm-service links come from swarm-level
options.
Also drops the remaining references to the removed matrix GUI switch:
the HiveUrls / Urls / hive_urls docs, the hivectl.md `open` note and
the gateway.md vhost-map rows, which name `gatewayHost` instead. The
grafana, victoriametrics and victorialogs modules' comments no longer
mention a quick-link they do not define.
Refs #4885
The forge always sits behind the gateway, so `deploy.forgejo.behindGateway`
(and its `swarm.forge.behindGateway` rename alias) is removed and its
true-branch behaviour is now unconditional within `deploy.forgejo.enable`:
https ROOT_URL on the gateway's httpsPort, the forge vhost and local DNS
name, the swarm-ui quick link, the published metrics scrape target, forgejo
metrics, the authelia `/metrics` rule, and `publicUrl` defaulting to
`https://<forge.domain>`.
Removed with it: the direct-port `http://<domain>:<httpPort>/` ROOT_URL
branch, the hive-ci assertion that the option is true, the core-toggle
cases that only exercised the false branch (the services-leaf case reads
`bare`, which never enabled the forge either). `hivectl open forge` now
points at `swarm.forge.publicUrl`, which can still be set to null.
Refs #4885
matrix.md no longer documents the .well-known/discovery domain
mismatch as a fact to work around (that's #4878's fix to make);
same fix applied to gateway.md's Discovery flow section, which
stated the identical bug and told the operator how to route
around it.
The serverName-pinning note no longer says the module requires
pinning it (nothing enforces that) — it states the consequence of
not pinning it instead.

error-pages.nix paragraph (gateway.md:433) blamed a dead authelia
upstream on an empty user set; the real reason the route earns a
custom page is that a bare 502 there blames the proxy while the
gateway itself is fine. gateway.md:38 dropped 'yet' from the
placeholder-while-empty phrasing. services.md:109 corrected
'seeds an empty users database' to the disabled placeholder subject
swarm-authelia.nix actually seeds (swarm-authelia.nix:873).

observability.md: "Why two tiers" claimed the harness currently writes an

Reworded as the hypothetical the paragraph is actually making.
gateway.md: restored the agent-trust pointer to
/run/hive-ca/trust-bundle.pem in "Cert prompts" (hive-ca-trust.nix:41),
dropped by the earlier rewrite. Corrected the SPA-fallback section: only
the chat.<swarm> vhost uses the Accept-header map
(hive-matrix.nix:693-696); per-agent split mode uses file-existence
try_files (gateway_nginx.rs:93-134), not the same mechanism.

and is set with mkDefault by the modules that need it; Basic auth scope,
dashboard /health/ prefix, error-page rendering, matrix body limit and
forge link source corrected; nginx internals grouped under one Internals
section with their headings unchanged.
network.md: gateway and dnsmasq run on the host, not in a container;
network.enable is set by the modules that need it; shared-netns firewall
rule covers every swarm service container; hive-priv writes the nspawn
conf; domain sentence rewritten; removed options moved into <details>.
jobq.md: swarm-controller runs its own graph; swarm UI /jobs and BU1LDS

Refs #3902
authelia 4.39.20 exits at startup on `users: {}` ("users: non zero value
required"), and the first-boot unit seeded exactly that, so a swarm with
no users crash-looped authelia and answered 502 until `swarmctl user add`
ran.
The first-boot unit now writes one subject, `swarm.placeholder`, when
the users database is absent, empty, or exactly `users: {}`:
- `disabled: true` — authelia returns "user not found" for a disabled
user before any password check (file_user_provider.go,
CheckUserPassword).
- password: an argon2id digest with an all-zero key. It decodes (authelia
rejects a non-digest at startup) and no known password hashes to it.
- the `.` keeps it out of agent names (`[a-z0-9-]`), and `swarmctl user
add` refuses it as already existing. Neither writer removes users, and
both round-trip `disabled`.
A file with any user in it is never touched.
The docs that described the crash-loop (sso.md, gateway.md, setup.md,
the sso-unavailable error page) now describe the placeholder; the
writers' load_store docs and the seed fixtures follow. module-eval
nats-authelia asserts the seed branch.
/etc/tmpfiles.d/hyperhive-agents.conf was a boot-time backstop (#2290)
that pre-created every agent's bind sources. The start preamble already
creates them for every c0re-driven start, and on this host only hive-c0re
starts agent containers. The file was also the reason the socket dir's
owner had to be declared there, which is how it spent its life at
`0777 root root` whenever the uid could not be resolved (#4742).
- hive-priv gains `EnsureAgentSocketDir { name }`, called from
`set_nspawn_flags` in every start path. It creates
`/run/hive-agent/<name>` `0751 root:root` with mkdirat relative to an
O_DIRECTORY|O_NOFOLLOW fd for the parent. An existing entry has to be a
directory (fstatat AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW); anything else is refused, and a
directory is left alone. hive-c0re's own create_dir_all went: its /run
is read-only under ProtectSystem=strict.
- The container's `hive-agent-user-migrate` activation chowns that dir to
the agent user and sets 0751, the same way it already handles state/ and
harness/. It refuses a symlink or non-directory there, since `test -d`
and chmod follow links. No host-side passwd parse, and no window where
the dir is world-writable.
- `/run/hyperhive/agents/<name>` stays created by hive-c0re itself
(`ensure_agent_runtime_dir`). It holds the `mcp.sock` that hive-c0re
binds as hive-core, so it must not become root- or agent-owned.
- The `/run/hive-agent` parent is declared in hive-priv.nix, `0755
root:root`, instead of hive-gateway's hive-core rule. hive-priv is its
only writer now, and hive-priv's ReadWritePaths needs it to exist.
- The manager start in `ensure_root_agent` now goes through
`converge_start_preamble` + `start_with_fallback`. It was a bare start,
so after a reboot the manager's bind sources existed only because of the
tmpfiles file, and its limits drop-in did not exist at all.
- Removed: `sync_tmpfiles`, `agent_uid_gid` / `parse_passwd_uid_gid`,
`priv_client::sync_agent_tmpfiles`, `AgentTmpfilesEntry`, the tmpfiles
body builder and their tests, plus the three call sites.
- Legacy: hive-priv unlinks the file at every start, ignoring ENOENT.
`SyncAgentTmpfiles` stays one release as a payload-ignoring variant that
does the same unlink and returns Ok, for an older hive-c0re.
Salvaged from #4752: the boundary.md correction that nginx only dials,
because ProtectSystem=strict makes its /run read-only.
Behaviour change: a manual `nixos-container start h-<name>` right after a
reboot, before hive-c0re has started that agent, now fails on a missing
bind source instead of starting.
Closes#4742
`services.hyperhive.enable` and `services.hyperhive.c0re.enable` are gone.
One switch, `services.hyperhive.deploy.hive-controller.enable` (default
false, as the old toggle was), now gates hive-c0re and hive-priv. Both old
paths are `mkRenamedOptionModule` shims in deploy.nix, so a host config
that still sets either evaluates as before and gets a rename warning.
Every other read of the old toggle is resolved, including the 29 made
through the `hyperhiveCfg`/`hiveCfg` aliases:
- Dropped: each swarm service and its glue keeps only its own deploy
toggle (authelia, bao and its PKI glue, grafana, victorialogs,
victoriametrics, the secret publisher, swarm-ca, the OIDC client rows,
the controller/nats/matrix-ctl/publisher/services-issuer identities),
the forge, and the `domain` deprecation warning.
- To deploy.hive-controller.enable: the queue-agent credential reader and
its assertion, which feed hive-c0re and write under its state dir, plus
their policy-order entry; the network identity assertions; hive-tls's
two writes into hive-c0re's environment.
- hive-tls runs where the gateway runs self-signed
(`gateway.enable && useSelfSigned`), not on every host.
- The matrix appservice-token reader and its assertion stay on
`deploy.matrix.enable` plus their client-identity checks. They read
deploy.matrix's token file and registration script; their deploy.bao
inputs are the client-half options a hive sets to read a store it does
not run, so gating on deploy.bao.enable would drop the tested
remote-reader case.
- The `hiveName` assertion moves from hive-network.nix to hyperhive.nix
and fires wherever the hive, the store or the homeserver runs: each
turns the name into an identifier with no fallback.
On a host with `deploy.allSwarmServices` and no hive, the documented
services-host recipe, authelia, bao, grafana, victorialogs,
victoriametrics, the OIDC client rows and the hive CA now render; before,
the old toggle being off left them out.
Refs #4500
Every hive with hyperhive enabled ran its own hive-forge container, and
its gateway answered forge.<swarm> with its own bridge IP, so on a
multi-host swarm each hive talked to its own forge.
deploy.forgejo.enable defaults to false and allSwarmServices sets it with
mkDefault, like authelia and bao; singleHostSwarm gets it through that.
The forge's OIDC client moves to a glue module gated on authelia, so a
split authelia/forge swarm still registers it. CI now requires the forge
on the same host, and the controller's forgeTokenFile defaults to null
where the forge is not.
Closes#4705
Refs #3782
forge-token.nix fetches swarm/agents/<agent>/forge-token under the
agent's own store identity into /run/hive-agent-forge-token/token, and
re-fetches on a timer so a rotation lands. hive-forge, the git
credential helper, hive-forge-notify, forge-avatar-sync and the web UI
read that file first and fall back to <state>/forge-token.
tea-login is deleted: it copied the token into ~/.config/tea, which
docs/swarm/credentials.md forbids for a store secret. hive-forge covers
the same verbs. swarmctl gains agent mint-forge-token.

description, design-intent idiom, structural/type-description idiom,
no-single-actor topology claim, parallel-triple exception, vale
substring-match artifact — see hyperhive#4548's per-PR bodies for the
per-hit reasoning).
Wraps each one in a scoped <!-- vale write-good.Passive = NO/YES -->
pair (the supported mechanism — TokenIgnores has a known offset-drift
bug) rather than a blanket per-file or per-rule silence, so a *new*
passive-voice hit anywhere in these files still fails once the rule
gates CI (next commit). Table/list false positives (docs/swarm/credentials.md's
renewal-table cells) wrap the whole block, not each cell.
Part of #4546.
Part of #4548 — rewriting the 353 hand-written-docs write-good.Passive
hits so #4546 can flip the rule to error. This batch: docs/networking/gateway.md
(27 hits), docs/tools/subagent.md (19), docs/web-ui/dashboard.md (18).
Minimal, meaning-preserving rewrites to active voice only — no
restructuring beyond what each flagged sentence needed. Genuine false
positives (predicate-adjective state descriptions like "is required",
"is broken", "is unchanged", adjectival past participles like "named
buckets", and one quoted literal UI string) are left in place; the
per-line reasoning is on the tracking issue.
Note: docs/tools/forge-cli.md (37 hits, would have been the single
biggest file) turned out to be generated from hive-forge's own clap
help text (see hive-forge/src/main.rs's `MarkdownDocs` verb) — same
category as the already-excluded hivectl-cli.md/swarmctl-cli.md, so
it's untouched here. Flagged on #4548.
Fix wording flagged on #4521 review: "Single nginx in front of every
hyperhive web surface" and "Runs on the host" claimed a deployment-wide
topology. There's one nginx per host that has something on it, and
potentially more inside service containers. Reword to describe what
this module builds on this host, with no count claim swarm-wide.
`services.hyperhive.gateway.enable`, `gateway.dns.enable` and
`network.enable` replace the `hyperhive.enable` gate on all three. Each
defaults to false; the modules that need one assert it with `mkDefault
true` from inside the guard their own deployment already carries, and
`swarm-required-services.nix` — the module that owns what the
swarm-services toggle implies — asserts all three explicitly.
hive-c0re asserts all three unconditionally, so an ordinary hive keeps
getting them with no opt-in: it is the host's only knowledge that agent
containers exist.
The resolver moves to its own `hive-gateway/dns.nix` so it can be gated
without reindenting the nginx half of the module.
Reinstates `network.enable`, dropping its `mkRemovedOptionModule` shim.
A config still carrying `network.enable = false` from before the removal
now switches the bridge off instead of failing eval.
Also deletes a duplicate `centralToggleOff` fixture in nix/module-eval.nix.
Two sibling slices added it independently (c5f60fd5, ce3b3d94); the merge
was textually clean and left `main` failing to evaluate at all, so this
file could not be gated without removing one.
Agents have authelia *users*; they had no machine identity at all, so an
agent could not authenticate to the swarm queue as anything. This mints
one `agent-<hive>` OIDC client per hive beside the existing
`hive-<hive>` one, teaches the auth-callout responder an agent arm, and
opens the queue's client port on the bridge so a container can reach it.
One client per HIVE, not per agent: agents are created at runtime, and a
per-agent client would make creating one a config change plus an
authelia reload. The cost is that agents on a hive are indistinguishable
to the broker, which is deliberate and tracked separately.
The agent grant is deny-by-default twice over. An agent id matches no
hive rule, so it gets a hive's status-key grant from neither; and with
no agent subject configured the responder returns no grant at all rather
than an empty publish list, which would be a denial wearing a grant's
shape. What an agent may publish is a deployment's decision, taken
through `--agent-publish-subject` the same way `--hive-publish-subject`
already works.
`Policy::new` now refuses two prefixes where one contains the other. The
arms are tried in order, so that overlap does not error at match time -
it silently hands one principal the other's grant.
Not shipped here, and neither is reachable without it: no subject is
configured for agents anywhere in nix, and nothing yet delivers
`agent-<hive>.secret` into an agent container. Both belong to the stream
that will be the first consumer.
`cfg` is whatever the reading module bound it to. It does not exist in a
NixOS configuration, so a sentence naming an option as `cfg.<name>` is
correct about behaviour and unusable as an instruction — the reader has
to go find the real path.
The four sites in docs/networking/gateway.md this was filed for:
cfg.sshPort -> services.hyperhive.swarm.forge.sshPort
cfg.dashboardPort -> services.hyperhive.c0re.dashboardPort
cfg.frontend (x2) -> services.hyperhive.c0re.frontend
Sweeping docs/ for the pattern rather than the ticket's line numbers
found five more, in four other files:
approvals.md cfg.hyperhiveFlake -> services.hyperhive.c0re.hyperhiveFlake
matrix.md cfg.registrationTokenFile -> services.hyperhive.deploy.matrix.registrationTokenFile
matrix.md cfg.gatewayHost -> services.hyperhive.swarm.matrix.gatewayHost
conventions.md cfg.dashboardPort -> services.hyperhive.c0re.dashboardPort
gotchas.md cfg.dashboardPort -> services.hyperhive.c0re.dashboardPort
matrix.md is the clearest case for doing this at all: its two `cfg.`
references resolve to *different* option trees — `deploy.matrix` and
`swarm.matrix` — so the shorthand is ambiguous even within one file.
Each path is read off the `mkOption` that declares it plus the
`options.services.hyperhive.*` root it sits under, with the indentation
checked so a nested block cannot have been missed. `cfg.frontend` is
declared in hive-c0re, not the gateway: the gateway module binds
`cfg = config.services.hyperhive.gateway`, which has no `frontend`.
Deliberately unchanged: docs/networking/snapshot-store.md:136, where
`cfg.port` sits inside a ```nix block quoting module source. `cfg` is
correct there, and rewriting it would make the snippet wrong.
Closes#4193.
The TLS section read as universal — "the gateway always terminates TLS",
"listens on httpsPort on every vhost". Measured against the rendered
config of an all-local host: ten of eleven vhosts carry two listens and
addSSL/forceSSL, and `grafana-metrics` carries one plain-HTTP listen on
127.0.0.1 with a single `= /metrics` location proxying grafana's unix
socket for the local collector.
The exception is right; a doc with no room for it is not. Someone asking
"is anything here serving plain HTTP" was told no, when the useful answer
is "no, except an internal class that is loopback-bound and deliberately
exempt" — which tells them what to look for on the next host.
One sentence where the modes are introduced rather than a patch to each
sentence that inherits the assumption, plus "every vhost" -> "every
routable vhost" where the self-signed default repeats it.
Two neighbouring claims were checked at the same time and hold: /_matrix/
proxies to 127.0.0.1:8008, and .well-known/matrix/client returns the
homeserver base_url with no port suffix on 443.
Closes#4191
Per mara's ruling on hyperhive#4041 (Microsoft.Avoid): 'backend' never says
which system it means. Fixed all 21 fixable hits to name the actual daemon
(mostly hive-c0re; one hive-agent instance and one hive-matrix-daemon one,
both confirmed against surrounding context, not guessed). Also tightened
Weston's own 'VNC backend'/'RDP backend' plugin references to their literal
upstream names (vnc-backend/rdp-backend) rather than dropping the accurate
term entirely, and reworded one unrelated Microsoft.Avoid hit ('and so on').
Left alone (flagged on the issue, not guessed): docs/turn-loop/config.md's
3 remaining hits match the actual nix option name (backendEnvironmentFile)
and describe a genuinely pluggable concept (which LLM API provider), not
one specific internal system.
argus caught this on PR review: the passive-to-active rewrite of the
packet-authentication sentence in snapshot-store.md started with 'So ',
which write-good.So flags as a new error not present on main. Drop the
leading word; meaning is unchanged.
Eighth batch of the ongoing write-good.Passive pass (hyperhive#4042):
read all 69 hits across network.md/snapshot-store.md/gateway.md in
context and rewrote 34 with a clearly nameable actor -- mostly
hive-c0re, dnsmasq, nginx, or a specific systemd unit/fn named right
there or a sentence or two earlier. snapshot-store.md's operator-facing
prose ("you can deploy it", "you must tell every hive") reuses this
doc's own established "you" address (already present two sentences
away in one case) rather than inventing a new register.
Left 35 alone -- the largest leave-alone count yet, dominated by two
shapes gateway.md is dense with: negative-capability/requirement
idioms ("no X is required/needed/exposed", "can't be added/wired",
"must not be exposed") and predicate-adjective state descriptions
("is misconfigured"/"is broken" in negative-contrast "not that X"
framing, "is privileged" matching the established "is trusted" bucket,
"is closed/internal" deployment-posture, "is encrypted and
unauthenticated" connection-state pair). Also: two "X was removed"
changelog-style facts with no actor clause (same family left alone in
the scheduler batch), a gerund nix-conditional pair ("X being enabled
and Y being set are assertions, not documentation"), and a passive
embedded inside an already-active sentence ("X controls whether Y is
opened" -- the real verb is already active).
One caught-and-reverted mid-edit mistake: an early attempt at the
"nginx is handed the leaf" fix landed on the wrong paragraph (an
unrelated CA-generation sentence two paragraphs up) and left a
nonsensical forward-reference behind. Caught by re-reading the diff
before running vale, not by the count -- same discipline as the
docs/process batch's original catch. Reverted cleanly and reapplied at
the actual target sentence.
One small sibling-consistency fix beyond pure voice-flipping: "The
gateway emits the following headers..." (rewritten) sat two paragraphs
above "a header is added alongside the other security headers" (still
passive) describing the same mechanism -- rewrote the second to match
("the gateway adds a header...") rather than leave one active and one
passive version of the identical fact sitting near each other.
Verified via vale before/after: 69 -> 35 write-good.Passive hits,
exactly the 35 left alone above; error count and other warning
categories unchanged. Re-read every changed line in full surrounding
context after editing before running the final vale check.
Fixes the "obvious ones first" slice of #4042 (mara: do the obvious
ones first) -- 81 hits across write-good.So, write-good.ThereIs, and
write-good.Weasel, all in docs/. Each is a genuine sentence rewrite
(lead with the real subject instead of "There is/are", drop a
sentence-initial "So ", replace a vague intensifier), not a blind
regex substitution -- read every hit in its real file context before
touching it.
3 of the 81 hits were in CI-generated CLI docs (docs/tools/{hivectl,
swarmctl,forge}-cli.md) -- fixed at the clap #[arg(...)]/doc-comment
source in hivectl/src/cli.rs, swarmctl/src/main.rs, and
hive-forge/src/verbs/repo_add_collaborator.rs, then regenerated via
each crate's `markdown-docs` subcommand so CI's freshness check stays
green.
Verified: fresh vale re-run shows 0 remaining So/ThereIs/Weasel hits
and no new hits introduced (983->982, exactly the one incidental fix
this pass also picked up at docs/scheduler/observability.md:48).
cargo fmt --check and clippy clean on the three touched crates.
Remaining write-good backlog (Passive: 726, TooWordy: 207) is
judgment-heavy and left for a follow-up slice of #4042, not bulk-
rewritten here.
Fixed 72 hyphenated 'auto-X' compounds across the docs by deleting
the hyphen to match Microsoft style guide (autogenerated, autoregistration,
autodiscovery, etc). Preserved original capitalization throughout.
Covered 26 documentation files in docs/, including README.md, agent-lifecycle,
integrations, scheduler, networking, process, tools, trust-boundary,
turn-loop, and web-ui sections.
